I recommend you go to David, Takuya, OC or other TS website and sort Rolex by price low to high and stop when you get to one you love or can no longer afford. If the latter, go back and get an Omega.

Can’t go wrong with a datejust in SS or two-tone. It’s a classic, and goes with everything from the beach to black tie. Also lots of design combos to express your own tastes. It won’t appreciate in value, but also you won’t lose much if you do sell (all Rolex hold value well relative to other brands). That said, if you’re looking at an investment then presumably you should take your money elsewhere instead of a single watch. So as a single Rolex, to me the datejust is the best option.

Addition* there’s no such thing as a beginner Rolex. All are awesome and depend on your tastes.

Used Explorer 1 is a perfect starting point as far as versatility/price. It could very be the only one you actually need. But a Sub or Sub date are also excellent choices.

if i were you i would not think like that. I wanted a rolex so i thought i should go entry for my first one. I bought a brand new OP39 a year ago. Just sold it and am now going after my dream watch which is a ND Sub. Youll just end up losing money if you doing go after the one you want

No-one is a Rolex beginner, there’s nothing difficult to understand. As someone advised above - buy the one that most appeals to you within your budget.

Not sure what your budget is — I would say start out with a 5 digit Explorer - 39mm — or 6 digit if your budget allows. Then graduate from there....perhaps to a Sub 5 digit, or GMT then 6 digit....etc.

That will get you the best bang for your buck IMHO.

IMO there is no such thing as a beginners Rolex. They are all luxury pieces. Some just cost more than others.

The OP series are at the lower end of the price point. It goes up from there.

Depends on what you like.

5-digit sub....was my first in 2003, still have and my favorite, even after flipping about 8 others along the way.

Rolex Explorer if you prefer a more under the radar. Submariner if you’re happy with something that’s has a little more presence...

If it's affordable for a small budget, it is likely not desirable and will not retain value as well as others. If you want something somewhat affordable, that you can get most of your $ back on, go explorer 1. Still not exactly beginner prices anymore.

Sub with date. Try David SW or one of the other dealers. They can walk you through the purchasing process and get you the watch you want.

With the hype and crazy prices with Rolex, I would stay away till it settles down. And it will. There are so many other great brands at almost half the cost. Omega, Zenith, IWC, to name a few. Rolex is not the be all and end all in watches. But if your sportin’ a chubby for Rolex, go for it.

Hulk, BLRO, Batman and Daytona are models that come to mind, especially if you could get them at msrp. I have no idea what you are calling a small budget, is that around 20k?

OP, only you can decide what YOU want to buy with YOUR money. Sounds like you have a ton of research to do! Good luck in your search and welcome to the forum!

P.S. I would recommend the Oyster Perpetual 39mm.

114060 no date submariner will definitely give you a reason to fall in love with the brand. Extremely durable, can go through hell and back and extremely versatile.

Couldn't go wrong with a 36mm datejust. There are a bunch of vintage watches out there with approachable price ranges. Post your budget and some additional information and people will be better able to assist you.
