I would still love to own it, but here in Montreal, no store is able to get it for me and even told me it is useless to be on a waiting list (how come)!

I even have a cousin working at Rolex telling me that this model is impossible to get new, unless I want the white gold selling for 2-3 time the oyster listing price.

Do you guys know why they still display the oyster on their website if it is impossible to buy one ?

thanks.

I think everyone the forum missed what the OP is asking for. The OP mainly had one question. Why is it on the website if it isn't available for purchase?

Answer is simple. It is part of the catalogue and current Rolex line-up. It is available for purchase to those who are given the opportunity.

Just like a LaFerrari (to extent), it's on the catalogue, you just have to be allocated one.

OP, you are seeing 'pretentious behavior' and 'flaming' because you came on a forum asking everyone to answer a rhetorical question (in the Rolex world).

Many will presume you are trolling. But if you aren't, I think the one thing most members would like to see you do is this: use the search function on the forum and just do some very quick research prior to asking a question like that. You will find out why people are responding this way.

Without doing that simple step, you are appearing like many past members as either a troll or lazy. This forum and any forum is to chat about watches, etc. It is a tool to get help as well but often many are just taking advantage of the help and doing the lazy way of "let's throw a question out there and people can gather the information for me."

Btw, your Maserati dealership wasn't looking down on you cause they are trying to make a sale on a car they have a hard time selling. If you are in a Rolex AD trying to buy a lady DJs our Pearlmasters with no strings attached on getting a SS sports models, you'll see the red carpets roll out.

My Maserati dealer didn’t look me down when I bought my first Quattroporte :)

Maserati dealer would treat you differently if you could drive off the lot and double your money reselling to a used car lot that they aren't allowed to sell to without losing their license.

Thanks 2nastie, I hear you and this is crystal clear.
Being new to the Rolex world I had certainly a novice question which explains the patronising reactions from a few members ;)

On the other hand, I am really thankfull for the help and constructive feedbacks from the few posters willing to teach me how this works (I didn't know all the details)

Being myself a respected artist in my field, I never patronise new comers and students, this is why I always get a bit suprised when it happens to me... anyways. Good Sum Up and we will see what happens ;)

Wow. You are very sensitive. I read through all the posts and honestly didn't read any posts that were really bad or aggressive. It takes a lot of time and work to buy a Daytona at msrp. One day one the forum and your out. Like I tell my kids, anything worthwhile in life will be hard to obtain. Fight for what you want. That's the only way you will get it.

Please take the time to browse the threads, as mentioned by some members. That way, you learn and don’t feel alluded to by any snarky remarks directed against its respective OPs.

You will also realize that your questions have been answered many times over, in all shapes and form.

I called Chateau d'Ivoire a few months back for a BB 58 and they basically laughed at my face, I would avoid doing business with them if I were you OP.

True I am sensitive lol (maybe the downside of being artist) but I hear what you say. I am also learning today why and how much a Dayto is difficult to get.

yup! heard that from someone else too. I think Montreal isn't the best place for this but I'll check other few places I have on my list like Bijouterie Italienne near Little Italy. the dealer was very nice.

Wish you the best of luck in your search!! Spend some time with your local AD. You might be surprised what you can get if you build a relationship.

Good luck in the quest. Give it a go at the AD. It can be done. We occasionally see folks who build a fast relationship and get lucky. Just not very often! It depends on you “making them want to sell it to you”.

Try for a few months and if you don’t get one, buy Gray.

Price increase

The price CAN went from $14250 to $15500. Just under 9% if my math is right.

Thanks a lot Guys !
hopefully we don't have too much resellers with high purchase history here in Montreal and I can be quickly on the list ;-)

Because it is still a watch they currently offer to the market it’s just an “allocation piece”.

It's not impossible to buy one. It's just very difficult. These days, only the most valuable customers are rewarded with the opportunity to purchase a Daytona from an AD. That's it.

Think of it this way. When an AD sells you a Daytona at list, they are also cutting you a cheque for $10,000. Are you more deserving of this $10k "gift" than others?

its on the Rolex website because it is available for purchase. And is possible to be purchased because Rolex sells all that they make.

the problem is that Rolex only makes so many per year and the demand far exceeds supply.

From a business sense ,can we blame them if they rather sell the $10000 gift to a client that spends more ? Honestly ,I would do the same .

AD will put you on the list for a steel Daytona if you buy a solid gold piece from them. If you don't want to spend >$50K to save $10K then just spend the $23-25K for the steel piece or < $20K for the previous 116520.
