yes big difference
Much better acoustics, humidity, lower cabin altitude = equals less stress on the body (body clock too) !

Well I haven't been at it as long as you but in 24 years of flying commercial jets I have never once looked at my watch in a nighttime cockpit and had any issue reading it. I am not arguing it would be cool to have the illuminated bezel or flaming you for posting about it.
Serious question though, do you legitimately feel it is needed? I sure do not need it, but again not saying it wouldn't be cool to have. |

Anything other brands do that Rolex doesn't is terrible.
Until Rolex starts doing it. Then it's the best thing ever. I think that's how it works.

Agreed.
FWIW, I like just about all of Ball's GMTs. They are doing cool things with the designs. |

I don't think that it is required to be as bright as the Ball watch, but I do believe that it would add needed functionality. Last edited by wilsonpepper; 7 January 2020 at 04:31 AM.. Reason: correction |

Here is the almost perfect GMT-Master - or what the Tudor BB GMT should have been

The Pelagos has a lumed ceramic bezel. Not for nothing but I’d forgo the precious metal infused ceramic insert for a glowing one...

It would be great to have lume in the GMT bezel but Let’s be honest - Rolex isn’t anymore a tool watch but a fashioned follower

If I were in the market for a new Rolex, I'd buy the Ball instead.

You can have those watches. I prefer the clean aesthetics of the Rolex design. I Think Blancpain does lumed bezels best. In any case I don't think this really needed, Rolex sells every single GMT it makes at retail. It has no problem selling them, so if you want lume that badly, you have other choices.
While Rolex are still as functional as ever and even more durable than any "tool watch" version of the 70's, Rolex has long since stopped making blue collar tool watches for sanitation or construction workers. You are delusional if you think a shinny $10k watch is best suited as a tool. |

I picked up that Ball watch for a song in the January sales. For the price, even before sale discount, the build and material quality is excellent.
It's a brute. And it will do very nicely as my travel anywhere beater for the next few years. The hour markers, hands and outer 24h index on the bezel are tritium tubes. |

I wear a 20 year old Luminox at night. The brightness has faded, but is still readable even with my old eyes. The GMT is hard to read after 4-5 hours.

No matter the forum members desire for such, the question that must be asked :
If you were in control of Rolex, had a wait list, and maximized production on a watch, would you redesign it ? PS - I would eventually to show advancement in a product.

The question is why doesn't Rolex put lume on the GMT bezel (anymore)? Pretty much everyone seems to agree that the bezel lume serves a useful function. (Don't believe me? Try using Rolex's GMT function under low lighting conditions; having a rotatable bezel is not very useful when you can't see the numbers.) Many have posited that Rolex removed bezel lume because the modern Rolex is about aesthetics not function. Perhaps. Rolex apparently engraves the numerals in the ceramic and then coats them with a thin layer of gold or platinum. I'm guessing Rolex tested out the possibility of using lume in the design on the bezel and they simply were unable to do so effectively. It would be nice to have a definitive answer to this question. By the way, when did Rolex ever market its GMT Master watch to sanitation or construction workers? |

Rolex won’t do it anytime soon, but I bet Tudor will soon. Maybe this Baselworld or next. Pelagos GMT would be great!
