My philosophy on Rolex is exactly yours; wear them, beat them up, enjoy them and f-ing love them. That's the right answer. Forget trying to make a quick buck.

Great advice. In the last year my vision is noticeably worse. The only watch I can read without issue is my Explorer II. I call it "the large print edition." Visibility is definitely a consideration.

I don't have a white dial at the moment after parting ways with my white Milgauss. I also parted with my Air-King. I'm down to the Explorer II (black dial) and Pepsi. So maybe the white dial rounds out the trio a bit better.

I like the look of the black better but the white seems like the way to go on that one. Either way hope you love it Chloebear, I cant say I'm a fan but it's a no brainer at msrp. I did try on new a black one and see the white one owned by a SA at my AD but it just didn't sing for me.

White dials owners will love the white dial..... Black dial owners will love the black dial.

White is currently the one to go for (social media helping no end) but black will always be the classic. With the pre ceramic Daytona, the black dial was at a premium to the white......

There is no winner.

But I went for black.

Thanks Nick! If it doesn't sing to me I'll walk away and leave it for the next guy (or gal).

I think you should go white given your collection (but I'm a terrible person to ask since I'm very black dial heavy!). And if it doesn't sing to you I say get it anyway and force yourself to wear it for at least a month - for me, for something i've been pining about in photos, i usually just don't know for sure until i wear something. Plus who knows who the person after you is? Can you say for sure it won't be a flipper?

I went with the white dial and have other watches with the black dials. I think both dials are nice if I had a opportunity for a black dial I would take it.

In that case I would suggest white if you have the choice.

FWIW, lists are typically far shorter on black and production numbers seem to be equal. If you initially get the call for black and decide to wait for white, then decide white isn't for you for whatever reason, another black won't be far behind.

Hopefully 2020 pans out either way.

I think it depends on what you already have.

I prefer the white because for me, it’s the classic Daytona look (just personal opinion).

My dealer says they get equal amounts of black and white but have a longer wait list for white. In the past I had a white 16520 and both colors of 116520. I chose black this time mainly because I already had a true white Panda chronograph.

I like the white dial because of the contrast.
The black looks good on previous model (also because of the contrast)
Both great!

Black dial for sure, but both are overrated. You can barely read the time, and it's too busy. They are pretty for sure, but not my cup of tea. Explorer II or Sub or Explorer or DJ for me.

Based on pictures I would have picked white, but I am glad I didn’t do that....black looks a lot better in person IMO and I think it can more easily be dressed up or down.

My AD showed me a black dial shortly after the Cerachrom bezels came out. Nice but it didn’t sing to me. I got on the list for the white dial shortly thereafter. I prefer the contrast and pop of the white dial.

The white does amazing things, the way light 'plays' with it, slightly changing tint from white to a very subtle silver.

The black, not so much at all.

The demand for white is no doubt strengthened by the media saying that it's the hottest model and the model with the highest return at flipping.

I was lucky to get my black dial after a relatively short wait. (summer 2017, 7months). My AD said everyone changed their intent from black to white, hence I got mine so quickly.

There is no real answer and that's what you should take from the answers on your thread... Make your 'own' choice and get the one you like the 'most'.

I liked the black in photo comparisons but I recently actually got to try on both and it was no contest. The white dial wore larger and was more legible. I could not read the black dial and the black insert and the all black dial seamed to meld into a black lagoon. This is simply my perspective and acknowledge others have the opposite take on it. I think age and eyesight play a major role in which you like better. My advice is not to listen to anyone and not to go by Forum pictures. Go to a Grey dealer and try both on, unfortunately you can't do that at an AD but it's the only way to make sure you buy the one that sings to you most.

Waiting on a Daytona from my AD and if offered the black dial I would have to pass.

Had the chance to buy either. White is awesome if you can somehow keep a white dialed watch in your collection. I have a hard time keeping anything that doesn't have a black dial. I went for black and do not regret one bit.

The black is a more integrated watch, only having two colors. The White introduces a third color and the black white contrast is a stark one, almost to the point of distraction. Visually you look at it and it’s a mess of contrasts. I would choose the 116520 over the 116500 white dial.

With regard to legibility, I owned a couple daytonas and if you are actually going to use the watch as intended as I did, both are illegible and lack enough hash marks to read the elapsed minutes properly. If you will wear as jewelry, then this does not matter.

I would take that money and get the new 321 Speedmaster, a superior watch in every way, and it’s not close.

I went for the white, and based on your collection I would say go the same route. However, you can’t make a bad decision as the black is so sexy in person.
