I love WG, but on the DD with that ice blue dial It is a big price difference though...

Thanks to everyone for taking time and sharing your thoughts. Very much appreciated.

I ultimately decided to take the plunge and went with the PLA DD over the WG. In the end my gut told me if I chose the WG I wouldn’t have been satisfied.

Side note, I took them both outside and I was amazed at the stark difference in color, the PLA was so much brighter than the WG. Side by side the WG almost appeared bronze. I have to admit I was surprised.

Pic attached. I feel blessed.

Thank you all again.

I was going to say fluted bezel vs. smooth blah blah but I reread your original post and 100% you made the right choice. Platinum was in your head and not going anywhere. For what it's worth, a platinum reference is the top of the rock even though individual preferences vary. Big congrats to you and hope you enjoy it for a long time. Stunning watch.

As an owner of a WG DD40 I agree with the comments about the fluted bezel but I would still go platinum given the choice

Congrats! I'm not a PM owner but always thought if so the DD40 silver quad would be the one. You went above and beyond. Love the super clean look of the platty bezel more then the fluted not to mention the killer dial. Enjoy that Beauty!!...

I am also a firm believer a President needs to have a fluted bezel.

If they only made a Plat with fluted or put a white gold one on it. Might look the bees knees.

Congrats and enjoy! Huge piece. I’m like you. If I had my mind on PT, I’d have felt like I settled if I convinced myself to do WG. . Wear in good health!

Between these choices, I'd go WG as I don't get the platinum thing at all. I don't see why I would want a watch made of that.

This one clearly sang your song...great choice!

And, yes, you are indeed blessed - likely in many ways beyond this great watch.

I like a fluted bezel better, so WG for me.
But the Ice Blue dial on the PT is fantastic, so you can't go wrong here...

Lack of fluted bezel is a deal breaker for me in this model

I can totally understand that perspective. I initially thought about the absent bezel too. The flat bezel makes the piece fly even more under in my opinion which is a plus for me.

Getting what you really want is always worth the extra dosh if you have it lying around.

I faced this dilemma when having to choose between ordering a Patek 5712 and a Patek 5990. I tried them both on and they both looked great. I have small wrists so the 5712 arguably fitted me a little better, it was a few grand cheaper, and it was the more ‘popular’ of the two on this and other forums.

So, easy decision.

Except it wasn’t! In truth, I marginally preferred the 5990 and I knew that if i opted for the 5712, I would continue to look at those wearing a 5990 with some envy!

I chose the 5990 and have never regretted my choice. I’d love to add a 5712 but I probably can’t (I’ve probably used up my one Nautilus card! And I’d also like a 5711 so can’t have everything!). Whilst I appreciate the pictures I see on here of the 5712, I have never once been envious.

Get the one you really want.

The 5990 is incredible. It blows my mind that the 5712 is so popular for a similar price. I remember when Patek couldn't move the 5712 for the life of them. For a good bit less I love the 5712, but not at similar pricing as the awesome 5990. Congrats
