I have a six place winder so minus the one on my wrist, 3 of them don't stay current time because the rotation is more than a week now.

I like the speedmaster triple date. I have been thinking about getting one. Do the hands shimmy slightly when you set the time and/or date? I heard this is normal for this model.

I think the compulsory buying becomes a bad habit or "addiction" if you take more pleasure in buying the watches rather than appreciating them for what they are.

It's one thing to hunt down a specific Submariner reference that you've always wanted with just the right amount of faded lume. It's another to gawk after the new Daytona after you had just purchased the five previous releases, and when someone asks you to explain why you like the new one, you bring up the most shallow reasons possible.

Funny, I did exactly that toward the end of the year and picked up two Seikos. They are a lot fun, and oddly I’ve found they bring the same amount of pleasure.

This really got me to thinking about my small collection and the direction I’m headed in.

2020 will be a less is more year for me. Ultimately I’d like to get down to 3 watches.

I relate to that, I am not wealthy......the solution is to have less watches. If you want a Patek, sell 2-3 Rolexes that you have.
I personally keep only 2-3 watches.....and a few inexpensive vintage pieces.

You can only wear 1 watch at the time. I would love to have so many other watches but I like to be sane and keep my "collection" small for a reason.

not that I've noticed. Mine is one of the later model ones, 3222.80. I think they updated the movement in 2007 with the 3606. Its a little small at 40 mm but it has so much character. I picked up a rubber strap for it, the racing speedmaster 19mm straps fit the case perfectly.

Yep, started with one, a 5513 in 1989, the number has continued to increase over the last 30 years

I only buy what i want and love and never once bought anything to climb an ADs ladder. The only mistake I've personally made was thinking i needed an Omega and therefore took a bath.

I currently have 12 watches in my collection (too many) and 5 pieces on my radar, but I won't pull the trigger. The reason essentially is because a little voice inside my head reminds me I have limited resources, two young kids I'd like to send to college in a few years and a mortgage to pay. So I try to focus more on what I already have and less on what I don't. I also tell myself the chase is better than the catch.

Very true. A very thin line, imo. And I have crossed it in the past in this hobby.

I have 5 in my collection that I've acquired over 15 years (subdate, tudor gmt, pam000, speedy, z-blue) ... so hardly would be considered an addiction at this point I think. I did rotate out another Omega to make space for one of the above.

Then again, 2 of those 5 were in the last 8 weeks and 4 more inbound this year .... hmm.

I can see it definitely getting out of hand for some people and honestly I'm the type of personality that could be in that group of people so I'm careful with myself. I limit the total amount I have tied up in my different collecting hobbies so when I add something needs to leave. Honestly that amount is probably still too high and at my age I'd be better off putting more of it away in a long term investment, but it scratches my itch and I get a ton of enjoyment out of it so I think it's a fair balance/trade off...so long as I don't convince myself to up that number :D

I have bought a luxury watch every year for the past 5 years....I’m getting to the addiction level.

I am consciously taking a break from online watch sites and forums

But after Basel 2020

Really great responses from everyone....THANKS...it is valuable to get your insights, and I feel less isolated in my obsession. I think downsizing is my strategy for the future... as someone said though, it is a bit like which one of your children/pets etc do you love the least... always going to be tough...

I like the Chrono24 app where you can add your watches and see their values (and how much you spent). It gives you a nice fat total which keep me in line. Your mileage may vary.

Rolex (or watches in general) can be quite addictive.

After pulling of a long break in buying watches, a Rolex 16600, Pam000 logo and B&R Orange, the adrenaline sets in again after a few visits to ADs and of course, TRF.

Started the journey again recently (since Oct 2019). Secured a Tudor Northflag, Tudor GMT (leather and bracelet), BB S&G, BB58, DJ41 Wimbledon dial/fluted/jubilee, OP39 white dial, DJ36 white roman dial/fluted/jubilee (for wife) and now waiting for SubND to come sometime next week or so. Bank account shrinks a bit but the feeling of owning these pieces and looking at them on my wrists is pretty priceless! :D

All that in 3 months qualifies as full blown relapse.

I smell a plan for establishing AD buying history. Perhaps more Rolexes SS on the way. Definitely a full blown relapse.

Initially that was the plan to journey with the AD. But the Tudor watches are simply marvelous as well as the OP and DJ! Smitten again and like those young and dangerous days! Lol

I am not adding to my collection anytime soon as I believe I now have every Rolex i want. It is a dangerously expensive hobby if you lust after them and have the means to buy . I have let go of a few only to buy them back . Not selling , not buying .

I am not an addict or a collector.
I do own 6 nice watches: 2 rolex, 2 omega's (one of which is a 1947 Seamaster which I inherited) a Tudor gmt, and a Heuer SE chronograph . I am simply said 'a watch lover' and enjoy wearing, researching and learning about these wonderful mechanical timepieces....
