Absolutely stunning!! A couple of questions for you. Did you buy at MSRP or with a discount? Is this an order or a waitlist watch?

Thank you

Yes bought at MSRP. No these pieces are extremely rare was not on a waitlist. It was offered to me as I have some of the Precious Gem Set GMTs in Yellow Gold and White Gold from this AD

Gmt WG SARU
Gmt YG SANR

I have inquired about the rose gold SARU but was told they haven’t even received one yet. The submariner I was told was the only 1 they received. And they are quite a large dealer.

Congrats and that looks AWESOME!!! I still haven’t wore my SARU yet...a little scared with some of the stories I’ve been recently hearing so just waiting for the right “safe” occasion to be able to wear it...

...I know, it’s a sad world we live in but I try to remain determined that it doesn’t change what I want and how

As a rule, I don't like gems on my watches but that watch is seriously good looking rules or no.

I really like it and I'm not a flashy person.....but I would try to rock it for sure.

I bet it’s a small market for resale on that one. Wouldn’t buy it as an investment. Just because it’s rare doesn’t mean it’s desirable.

I can certainly see why only a few were made.

The OP has a story about a friend with a "deal" on a $110,000 watch and asks what a "good price" would be, with a picture on a standard box cuff.
Where does the Op say it's a "deal"? He says an AD is selling and wonders what a reasonable price is. It seems natural to wonder whether MSRP (or whatever the AD is asking) is the going rate or not. This sells at a premium, so obviously if it's actually available for MSRP then that's worth grabbing. However, even then, knowing the going rate is pretty important if there's a bundle with other watches involved.

I personally think this is a gorgeous watch. If the Smurf had that dial I'd have bought one in a heartbeat. I'm not keen on the gem-set lugs and guards, but I think the bezel looks amazing.

Most rare pieces are rare for a reason. Nobody wants them except for a rare few.

The watch in the picture if you look close can still see the factory stickers on it. Add in it's at an AD (if OP is to be believed which I have no reason not too) and it's legit.

As to value, if you do a little sleuthing on the interweb, the lowest price I found new was $101K. The highest was $210K. Several were in the $110-115K range so there you go. If I really wanted one, I would offer $100k and see where it went.

No way to predict future value. I found plenty for sale and it will always be a small potential pool of buyers for one so that's a consideration.

If your friend has the means and loves it, all that matters.

Funny story.

Back in September I walked into a London AD with a friend, after a day of browsing watches and seeing empty showcases all over the city.

They had a YG 116618LB in the case to my surprise and I also asked to see a few other DDs. Anyways, we got to a good chat with the manager of the AD (my friend and him actually came from the same town.) I told him I was thinking of a true statement piece but that the 116618LB wasn't quite doing it for me. He told us to wait, as he had something very special to show us.

He came back with this:

You could have knocked me over with a feather. I knew of this piece, but had never seen it in real life before.

It was incredible. And it was available to me, even though it was my first visit to this AD, and I was a non-local. The manager told me he wanted to see it go to a good home and he could tell from our conversation that I was a true collector.

I was blown away by the attention to detail to the gemset bezel, and the shades of blue through the gems and the dial. I could have seen myself wearing it.

I went back the next day and spent another 2 hours looking at it. As much as I loved it, I didn't pull the trigger in the end. I believe it was 55,000 GBP after the VAT refund, around 72K USD?

All this is to say, I'd buy if you love it. I wouldn't buy to flip or as an investment as there are far fewer buyers than your typical SS/PM Rolex. I see asking prices of 100K+, but try selling one to a TS. You will get a lot less than that, no doubt in my mind.
