What a heart felt story, so sorry for your loss. Enjoy the CHNR as your "dad's watch" as it was always going to be his.

So sorry for your loss... may his memory be blessed and enjoy the watch as a piece that connects the two of you... I have only 2 Rolex watches and a few others. They have always been tied to events in my life.

Wear that Root Beer in good health (and your fathers). Would be a great watch to engrave and dedicate to him.

I’m so sorry to hear the news. I couldn’t wait for you to tell us about your dad reaction when he’ll open his present gift:-(
Good thing you got the watch, enjoy it on behalf of your beloved dad now.
Sub ND for the wife is a fantastic voice, congrats to you both on your anniversary.

Was blessed to pick up several new references last year including a WG GMT Pepsi all from AD. Last summer I told myself one of my first goals of 2020 would be to surprise my dad with a GMT root beer for his bday this coming Feb 10. He has a vintage root beer and I know he had been in love with the new one. Needless to say I had been patiently waiting for the call from my AD. And even now as I fight my tears back, I’m still beyond devastated to share that my incredible dad passed away in October as a result of a long battle with cancer. Sadly he never made it to his bday and I had completely forgot about the watch. Three days ago my AD called to tell me my dad’s watch had arrived in time for his bday. I wasn’t sure how to respond without breaking down. I told him I’d call him back and immediately called my wife. She told me I had to buy the watch, there was no question. The watch was intended for my dad, it arrived right before his bday and I had to wear it in my dad’s honor. It was truly an emotional purchase but she was right. I can’t explain what surge of emotions ran through me when I first put the watch on. At some point I will have it engraved.

Also early last year I realized it was time to get my wife her own Sport Rolex so she can stop wearing and constantly adjusting mine. Today the call came for her no date Sub - it really is stunning and clean sans cyclops. Perfect for her as she never has the patience to set the date. I’ll be gifting it to her in March for our wedding anniversary. Amazing woman to say the least.

Thanks for listening. Much health and prosperity to each of you.

Great story - stories about luxury goods are always best told when they have a deeper meaning. I also love wearing items that have stories to them. Peace!

My condolence to you and your family and a great way to cherish your memories.

When my Mom passed away 18 months ago, I decided a couple of months later, that I shouldn't wait until I was no longer here, to give each of my 3 beautiful daughters, one of my Rolex watches.
Firstly, I wanted to see their faces when I gave them and subsequently seeing them being worn.
But equally for them to have many years of enjoyment, building up their own memories.

What an incredibly moving post. So sad that you missed the opportunity to gift your dad the watch but that will make this piece all the more special.

Do you get a chance to wear his original root beer?

Damn! Sorry to hear! The Rootbeer will now have a sentimental value and would be a family keeper. I am sure he is looking down at you amazed what you were doing for him! My dad got me hooked on Rolex. He gave me his DD OQ when I graduated medical school!. Will be passed to my son.
