To me, it wears much bigger than a sub, its a lot thicker and feels more top heavy. The thickness is the biggest issue for me, I already consider the sub pretty thick.

I'm going to agree and disagree with some of the posts here...

I agree that the SD43 with its slim lug profile wears about the same as the Sub from a top down perspective but that's where the size comparison ends for me.

It's a bigger wearing plain and simple. It's thicker and heavier and has a protruding caseback which for some is a challenge to find a good fit.

Now don't get me wrong alot of folks here wear this reference as a daily and I'm not trying to talk you out of it. Just making you aware that it IS a bigger heavier watch overall.

7" wrist. 6'2" 173 lbs.

Okay, so I think you (most of you) have convinced me to give the SD43 a shot. And as one of you mentioned, I do like the idea of finding one with the MK1 dial. That takes finding a new one at an AD off the table.

So how much should I expect to pay? (What's a good price with papers?) And what forums should I be watching for a one? And at X price, how long do you expect I'll need to wait before one turns up at that price?

MK1 Mk2 MK4 HESTIRIA makes no difference whatsoever. Same watch.
Mk2 is gonna be when the red tex is removed and becomes white in my opinion not the addition of a little crown. A watch like this I wouldn’t get but new from AD with papers and card with my name on them.

I went with this exact decision recently and went sub no date and have not looked back. My other 2 Rolex watches are Exp2 Polar, which at 42mm really does not wear that big (more like a 41mm like my Tudor BB GMT), and my GMT 2 Batman.

I saw a similar argument, if you go big, go big. I have the Omega PO Big Size which is 45.5, and when I looked at the SD43, I thought why wouldn't I go 44mm?

I guess that's why they make them with some size variance, to accommodate everyone.

I got the BBGMT, it’s a 42mm with 15mm case height. The SD43 wears slimmer, lower on the wrist than the GMT. Both are equally comfortable though. The SD43 may be a touch more confy due to its slimmer case.
When I tried the DSSD it looked like if I had a bracelet attached to 2 superimposed cases on it. Too tall, day and night. No way.

I chose the SD43, never considered the no-date as I consider the Cyclops an iconic Rolex feature that I'd rather have than not :)

This thread was very useful to me as well, since I'm in the same boat. I want to get a Submariner 114060 or SD43 to celebrate a huge career milestone coming up this year, as well as a 35th birthday gift to myself. Love the look of the SD43 but also have size concerns. I also do like the Submariner quite a bit. I'm not a small guy, about 6"2 and 215 lbs, but my wrist is about 6.5"

Here's a pic of my Speedmaster Pro which feels fine on my wrist and at 42mm diameter / 14 mm thick case is not too much smaller dimension-wise than SD43. Think I can pull off a SD43?

It's hard to wait a long time or spend $$$ to buy a watch without the opportunity to try it on! I really enjoy seeing all of your awesome watches on this forum and thanks for any feedback.
