Probably going the way of the turnograph sooner rather than later. Certainly a gentleman’s curiosity/quirk.

The black (non GV) and the white dial milgauss were discontinued roughly around the time the AK was released, which is why I suggested Rolex might have had some spare Milgauss cases to find a use for. Plenty of people here were making the same observation when the AK was released, as well as pointing out the very obvious (at that time) use of Explorer WG indices.

Yes but this still won't have anything to do with the demand for Milgauss. You still have two dials to choose from. Can you believe the white dial is still available in my AD case even after 3 or more years (last time I saw it was around 3 weeks ago). A lot of people didn't like the AK redesign for a lot of reasons (It's a design that grows on you, give it a chance), and came up with all these theories from observation as you said. My scenario is just one of them, and people are free to believe what they want. I'm just showing that you can come up with any explanation to things, but that doesn't mean it's what really happened. Only Rolex designers know. If you like the Air King just go ahead and buy it. No need to analyse how it was designed and why, it's no big deal in my view.
