Submariner to small

How do you even come to the conclusion that it would be too small as it almost completely fills your wrist?!

I've had both and much prefer the SD43 over the 40 mm Subs/GMTs. Love the thicker case which matches up nicely to the 43 mm diameter. I just like sports watches to look a little chunky and Rolex does such a nice job with the shape of the case that it just looks perfect.

Having said that, a lot comes down to wrist size. From your pic I think the Sub fits you well. If you are below 7" wrist you really should try a SD43 on before buying one if you can.

To is a preposition with several meanings, including “toward” and “until.” Too is an adverb that can mean “excessively” or “also.”

To me they are too small. Rolex isn’t stupid (surprise to some of you) so they make watches in different sizes to fit different people. I heard a rumor recently that Rolex was going to increase the case size of the Sub but I doubt that will happen. 40mm seems perfect for the majority of buyers.

Very happy they now make multiple 42mm watches. Explorer II, Sky-Dweller and a YM42 is a perfect 3-pack for my wrist

You can’t tell this from pictures. The closer the camera the larger the watch will appear.

True! That's called "forced perspective", it's just like when you catch a fish and take a picture with the fish near the camera it always looks like the fish is bigger than what it really is.

IMO size is relative to what you get used to seeing on your wrist.

The Submariner and SD43 really dont look substantially different to my eye from a top down view. Of course the SD43 is the thicker, heavier watch at about 15.2mm 185 gms, vs 12.1mm 140 gms for the Sub.

The biggest difference is case thickness and weight. The Sub is the more comfortable to wear daily IMO

I don't think the sub is too small...it's really a perfect size, IMO. Daily wear, comfort (as Brian said), wrist presence, it ticks all the boxes beautifully.

However, size is unique to each wearer's perspective, and that's something none of us can decide for you. If it looks small to you, it most likely always will, no matter what we say.

So...have a look at some of the larger offerings and see what you think. With the 42+mm watches in the catalog, surely something will strike a chord. Good luck,

Looks great. You want to wear the watch, not have the watch wearing you. Even with larger wrists, the massive lug size and shine of the 6 digits mean lots of wrist presence.

The SubC is not a small watch, bigger then a Daytona and thicker then a GMT Master II.
For a lot of WIS the supercase introduction about 10 years ago is already a step too far.
Highly doubt it the SubC will grow in diameter.

Agree, no point now that they have the larger Sea Dweller. That satisfied the crowd that thought 40 mm was too small (me included)

If you think it’s too small then it’s too small. You’re wearing the watch for yourself so your opinion is really the only one that matters. The new Sea Dweller should be a better size for you at 43mm.

The lugs are not overhanging your wrist- I'd say the fit is perfect. Also it's typically best to assess fit with the watch above the wrist bone. Kind of looks like the watch is so tight it's cutting circulation off to your hand at the moment.

For me it's just about perfect, as anything longer than 48 L2L is really pushing it for my wrist. However when I first saw it I was a bit taken aback by how small the dial looked after wearing my 214270 for a year. I quickly got used to it and now it doesn't cross my mind.

No. Not t all. The Sub at 40mm is perfect. If you don’t like the fit - and want bigger get a SD. The proportions of the Submariner are in my mind nearly perfect.

There are lots of other options for folks who want bigger watches. (Which incidentally - is shifting back towards 38-40mm)

Well, first of all wear it like you should above the wristbone and take another pic. Unless you have >'8 wrists or something subs are the perfect size for most. If you are still stuck in 2000 and like big watches you can always go hublot/breitling/roo.

Definitely not too small. It all is what you are used to, but compared to your wrist size I think it fits good.

Thanks everyone for the insight. Very helpful. Here are a few other shots of watches I have been considering. The Panerai is a 42, the Vacheron and AP are both 41. I am thinking that a 43 Sea dweller might be perfect or even a 42mm sky dweller.

Why don’t your wear a clock while you’re at it? I can’t imagine a Sub being too small for any normal-sized wrist (and your wrist is normal-sized).
