I never heard of a tyre either, just tire...

The sidewalls are reinforced with chicken gristles, the ride can be a bit bumpy and smelly, but it is worth the money if you hit a nail or something!

My E90 came with runflats and I am at 18K miles currently.. I am having the same debate. I was considering buying the small donut and a jack kit, but then there is the issue of the trunk space....I am sure non RFT feel better, but at this point I do not mind....I heard that you can still plug or patch RFT without an issue..BMW just doesn't recommend it because of liability issues, and I am sure they want you to buy a new tire from them every time!

You definitely can patch a run flat its just hard to find a place that will.

Well I have FRs on my 07 650 vert and had them on my '06 650 coupe. Also played the "goop" game with an '04 M3.

Personally, I don't mind the ride. The RFs have been gotten better. Haven't had a flat tire in 20 years. Yea, it could end-up being a giant pain in the butt out in the sticks but I'll take my chances. In plans to fill a small trunk with jacks etc. The RF issue is the "PCLs on a Sub" equivalent in the Roundel magazine and on BMW boards.

If you don't like them 1) buy another brand car, 2) spend $1000+ for new tires and fill your trunk with a full spare or donut, lots of people do it. I wouldn't expect BMW to change. If anything, more brands will go this way in the effort to reduce weight, boost fuel economy, and maximze capacity, etc. Personally, I hope this happens so 1) more shops will stock the tires, 2) have the equipment to change them and 3) compete against eac other on price. The price of runflats really isn't so bad, when you compare them to the "gouge" prices dealers charge on all tires. The problem is that you lack alternatives.
