Could an original WG fluted bezel be platinum plated and then fixed? There would be no more problems of different shades (and this is a real problem of aesthetics).

This!
Don't mess with the watch, keep it original.

Guys is it simple answer? I am not sure. The white gold fluted bezel works because gold sparkles nicely when fluted. I don't believe platinum would give off the same effect? So perhaps Rolex decided it did not look good enough platinum fluted??

Don't know about watches (there aren't that many made of platinum to begin with) but there is no shortage of intricate platinum jewelry out there. Platinum is not a particularly difficult metal to work with.

[QUOTE=EtherBrown;10554671]Anyone have a WG or Plat DD40 they could weigh to contribute to the extra heft component of the discussion? My RG DD40 with two links removed weighs in at 200g.

262g with one link removed.

At first the lack of a fluted bezel irked me but when I saw this piece
in the metal I had to buy it.

Beautiful, stealthy, legible and doesn't scream Rolex.

The fact that Rolex made some dials exclusive to the platinum models does not means that a non platinum watch with such dial is a fake or a frankenwatch (or the wearer not smart enough. jeez....

The flutted bezel was orginally to screw down the bezel. Funny how now it is simply cosmetic. Of course it did look different back then.
