It's a tough call for sure. I think it comes down in part to how you treat your watches and how bothered you are by wear and tear. The ceramic bezel on the daytona isn't going to wear like the AP RO. I'm really easy on my stuff and I own an AP 15400 RG on strap and AP 15202. I feel like I get the best of both worlds with those. It's true with people say about the bracelet though, it really is something special. I considered getting the RG bracelet for my 15400, but for the cost I'd probably just put it towards a DD40. I will likely get a rubber strap for my 15400.
The level of finishing on the bracelet is top notch, but in RG it's going to show more wear because of that high level of finishing. Also, I prefer the 15400 to the 15500, you may have better luck finding one of those in the current environment.

UPDATE
So I am still conflicted. Tomorrow's not promised but I don't think it's time to go full RG AP with bracelet yet - I want a long term watch goal (like many of you this is an obsession). Obtaining the grail for my next milestone birthday (which is 8 years away) seems more ideal. I keep telling myself these are just luxury watches and I don't need any of them in all honesty, so take it slow. Here is my dilemma: I don't know whether for now to just enjoy the Daytona. - It's a Daytona! - I don't care much for the Oyster bracelet to be honest, so I won't miss that with the Oysterflex. - The main con is the dial feels very busy. Or get the AP on a strap. - Dial is perfect. - I could update the entire watch down the line with bracelet and whatever the latest movement is, in X number of years? - Con: Feel like I am getting half the watch. The bracelet is everything. From what I have heard, Gerald Genta began designing the bracelet first. Without being able to visit any dealers or try anything on. I can't make the decision. The question is do you go for half the grail watch that you want (AP) or a completely different watch that you also love (Daytona) until your ready for the grail (AP RG Bracelet)? Also who knows what you will want down the line. I could get the AP now and feel like I want something completely different in a few years. |

Since you are still unsure, you should definitely try both on first before making a decision since both of the watches shouldn't be too hard to get. Sure it may take a couple of weeks/months but at least you wont be throwing some serious dough on something you may regret getting. Sent from my SM-G988B using Tapatalk

In this case get what you want, otherwise you will never be satisfied. So what if you want something else in a few years, thats what makes this a fun hobby in the first place! #yolo

I had that RG Daytona and it was breathtaking but I knew I probably would sell it after a couple of years and indeed I did, for a RG ROO so similar to you. In this case I would trade for the AP on strap with a view to getting it on bracelet in a couple of years, 8 seems light years away in TRF terms.

If buying an AP, you have to wear it on bracelet. The whole appeal of the AP is the bracelet mating with the case.
I think it mostly comes down to wrist size. You need a 7.5" wrist for a 41mm APRO to look normal. I've had it 3 times, and they just look absolutely silly on a 6.75" wrist. Anyone who tells you otherwise is just delusional. If the RO was 39mm, it would be a no brainer when comparing the two. |

On another thread you’ve posted looking for a PP 5167. So appears you’ve more in the mix than just these 2. All quite different watches in terms of look and wear. Enjoy the hunt. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I would get the AP 15500 on strap and then while you are enjoying the watch I'd save up for the bracelet and buy it later

Will AP give or sell to you the parts necessary to attach a strap to a Royal Oak that came on a bracelet? Also, is "plots" the OEM name for that part?

You'll need 4 plots (very expensive, around 300 a piece x 4 last time I ordered), plus screws, plus strap, plus buckle or deployant. |

I know these are not the models you’re looking for but I feel it’s a good representation of the contrasting styles. I was searching all over for a RG ROC chrono on strap because the full gold was out of my reach. I also looked at the RG Daytona on oysterflex. I had the same reservations you have regarding both and then found the SS ROC panda. The ROC panda was in my price range, had AP’s trademark bracelet and has classic sporty styling that I think looks timeless. It checked all my boxes and it’s also a little easier to wear casually vs the RG. This is biased but looking at the two watches side by side I feel one outshines the other as pure class by a country mile. |

AP RO no doubts, but just consider that Rolex is more robust for daily use
