I’ve always rested mine face up, no reason other than it seemed to make the most sense, and maybe because I always thought it was a bit easier on the bracelet and case/crown

The watch stand is a must, i used to lay them on micro fiber cloth. This is much easier and less thought involved.

Rest it in its own personal position to maximize accuracy. Even in a winder you have 4 positions to choose from.

I tuck mine into its watch box, place a cloth over it, sing it Sweet Kitty then kiss it goodnight.

Dear Lord I hope this lockdown ends soon.....

Crown down works best for me and keeps daily rate consistent.

I had this dilemma too so decided to design a 3D printable watch stand. Now my watch is secure by my bed and not going to get scratched.

You can find out more here if anyone is interested: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=739019

Lots of great suggestions here.
I use the following rules and I’m fully aware that they make no sense whatsoever :)

Oyster bracelet, I either sleep with the watch on or sometimes place it on my nightstand dial up
Jubilee bracelet, nightstand dial up
Leather strap, in my watch box or on rare lazy occasions on my night stand face up. There is a reason for this, one of my dogs have gotten the taste of leather straps... it has cost me an IWC strap - somehow the watch head itself seemed somewhat unharmed (it is a beater anyway)

I’ve actually asked my dealer this question before. If you’re looking to just take off your watch and leave it on a counter top, the preferred way is to rest it on the crown side. This allows for the least amount of watch real estate to be exposed to the surface that it’s resting on, and therefore, prevent less noticeable scuffing. It also keeps the watch in the same position as if one was wearing it on their left wrist, while in an upright position, with their arms parallel to their body. This position also prevents the caseback from rubbing against the inside of a bracelet. For these reasons, this is how a dealer presents a watch to you.

I do for sure! I wear mine occasionally and when i wake up I’ve had scratches on my face. I don’t know what happens at night but it’s not great for my face.

I always leave mine on the side crown up placed on a Rolex pad that an AD gave me. Watches I'm not using are stored in an Everest watch roll.

I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted so I modified one of these Apple Watch stands, https://www.containerstore.com/s/app...=apple%20watch

I cut a piece of styrofoam into a wedge shape, pulled out the stand from the base and placed it in a way to lessen the tilt in the stand. It was too steep to hold a watch properly without it. Then cut up a old microfiber cloth and wrapped it around the top. The hole in the stand is perfect for case backs to sit in so there’s no sliding around.

I do this too just to avoid extra wear points on the rear cover. Takes zero time to do anyway and I like the look of the slightly brushed cover with its 'grain'.

Tuck it in for the night however you want..... it will still be like that in the morning.
I tuck my watch in, but it is restless and runs all night

Rolex watches today sure get a very pamperd life so I have had a specially made Rolex bed made from the finest materials known to man,it's lined with the finest silk and specially padded with the finest softest Pashmina as not to scratch the extremely delicate 904L SS, now called Oystersteel .Plus it has a built in winder to gently rock your Rolex watch to sleep and keep its heart ticking at a constant 28800 BPH. Plus the added feature of thermostatically heat humidity and air conditioned controlled to the COSC standard. As Rolex watches are very very very delicate and need extreme pampering if not they will get a scratch or even self destruct .Its fully Programmed to lull Rolex watches to sleep when off wrist, with soothing ticking and whale sounds to help it drift into a place of peace and Rolex tranquillity.

Afraid the Rolex bed is at the moment a very secret prototype but will be taking orders soon once I have it it full production price expected to be $500 -$800 owing to winder expense as these winders are very special COSC certified motor ones..

But in the real world a Rolex is just a watch and does not care how the watch is left to rest off wrist flat, downside up, crown up or downsideup perhaps in these different positions might lose or gain a second or so out of 86400 in a day, or the need for a special resting cloths or special stands or boxes when at home.

Amusing post. Vietnam Vets who wore the hell out of their Subs in the jungle are rolling over in laughter. Believe most have forgotten the core roots of Rolex and what they were designed for--TOOL watches! Wear your Rolex, enjoy the watch and what it stands for and don't pamper it.
