Datejust 41 as a Rugged Everyday Alternative?

I do worry about the center links being too shiny. I know that was a bit of an issue on the Aqua Terra. I know there is the OP and Explorer, but there is something about the date function/cyclops!

I've had a TTSub blue face for many years. Got a new SSDJ41 fluted bezel, jubilee white dial a few months ago. I haven't worn the sub since. I've received more comments on the DJ in a very short time than all the years wearing the sub. In fact my wife has a TTDJ31 jubilee (many years) along with an AP TT Royal Oak ladies and liked the look of my DJ so much that we got her a SSDJ41 smooth bezel jublilee that is on it's way back from the Dallas service center after having the dial changed to blue. (It came with a silver dial and I have no idea how she talked the AD into swapping the dial after they told us "NO...Rolex doesn't do that anymore")

Bottom line...the DJ is nearly perfect for me...can wear to work, play golf, out on the town, or anywhere.

The DJ41 in this configuration can absolutely be a daily. I wear the same watch (albeit in rhodium) with everything from a t-shirt and gym shorts to a full suit. It's really not all that different from an Explorer (I've owned one in the past), so no reason you can't rock it in the meantime.

I've considered 36! I've got one from the 1980s but sure the modern version is a bit sturdier.

For me the DJ works great as an everyday watch. I find it my most comfortable watch.

I also have a Sub C Date. The DJ has been getting more wrist time lately.

I have both fluted and smooth bezel. I love both for different reasons! If you don't care about a date function, I'd recommend the Explorer

If you want a date, and want an everyday watch.....the smooth Bezel DJ is tough...i love it!!

I think the stainless DJ41 with Dark Rhodium dial, fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet is one of the greatest looking pieces Rolex makes. I see Subs on wrists everywhere, but the DJ in this combo is such a great and less obvious choice.

I wouldn’t go so far as to call it bland, but I would agree that is a stretch to call it sport or dress. Stick markers, stick hands, Lume, fabulous finishing and dials. It has elements of sport and dress, but it doesn’t fall hard into either category. Different configurations can certainly lean more one way or the other though.

Got mine in January. First Rolex. Very happy with it and wear it every day. Business and business casual weekdays (less so during quarantine) and jeans on weekends. But buy what you want and don’t settle.

In my opinion, you definitely want a fluted bezel. Similar to the sky dwellers, I think the fluted / oyster combo looks great and is super versatile. You can wear it with jeans and a t shirt or with a suit.

Most definitely. I got a 126234 DJ 36 with the black fluted bezel on jubilee. Can wear it with almost anything. Suits and a t shirt and jeans on the weekend.
Was originally going for a 41 but 36 fit me better.

Only difference between a sub and dj is the sub has a thicker case back to handle the increase wr to 300 m and a rotating timing bezel . The crystal are both the same thickness. So Dj can do it all except dive very deep.

I wore a Rolex DJ TT everyday for 7 years in the 80's! Is a wonderful only one watch.

That’s because the DJ41 is big, awkward and clumsy. The DJ was designed to be a slightly smaller watch.

The DJ41 is a beautiful watch. I own one myself, but I think the 36mm is the icon.

The DJ41 is almost like a two-seater sports car, being larger than a 4x4. It’s just off.

In fact, the size of the dial on a 36mm is actually the same size as that of a Sub.
