I offered him 4k and he would agree on that. What's the point? Yeah he could get more for it, but he doesn't have a clue how, where and to who.

Even without box and papers it’s worth twice that. He may not care about the watch but, I am sure he will care about the other 4k.

If he is a good friend, tell him to service it and then put it on sale.

If you’re happy with your due diligence then go for it and send in for a service !

Worst case you’re out a few k, best case you own a freshly serviced hulk at a super price.

The dial shows the characteristics of a Mk. III dial, which puts the watch (if real) anywhere between mid-2016 and today. Even in it's somewhat rocked condition and w/o B&P, you are still looking at $12.5k. If it turns out to be real, be a better friend and up the offer.

Sorry I have to ask, but the part of the clasp with ROLEX and the crown on top, is the "background" to that polished (but really dirty) or does it look "sandblasted"?

To clarify, look at the first picture in this thread: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=581317

The OP is not a true friend because this is not what a true friend would do.
You would want always the best for your friend. You should tell him honestly about the watch and then offer him a reasonable offer.

From those pics, I am 99% sure the watch is fake.
And I owned a genuine one for 3 years so I know the real deal.

OK, so it looks like the characteristics of a mid-2016 or later Mk. III dial. Fine rehaut lettering, polished clasp link. I just compared it to mine, looks similar.

The dial is off a little bit counter clockwise, which is not uncommon, and can be adjusted. Again, mine is similar. But it could still be a complete fake.

Others will be able to speak more regarding authenticity, but eventually you need to have to open it, if you want to be sure.

I'll leave the moral discussion alone, although I am with the majority here. My advice: Authenticate it together. If it's real, meet somewhere in between to make you both happy.

Think Rick Harrison at Pawn Stars: Every couple of shows, someone walks in and has no idea what they have. He gets a price from the experts and then ups his bid to a realistic level. Not quiet as much as if the person would have done their homework themselves, but enough to come across fair and likeable on TV. ;)

Roll up a long piece of duct tape into a round ball. Stick it to the case back and unscrew it. You will have your answer regarding authenticity looking at the movement itself.

Thats exactly my idea how to handle this, but i need to know for sure if it is the real deal then. The watch is going to a watchmaker tomorrow, so i can ask him to open it up.

And again, it is someone i see frequently, but he is not a close friend to me. I know for sure if i would tell how our relation is to each other most of you would do this deal also for 4k.

Thanks for your input.

Some pretty bad lighting in those pics. Bezel markers don't look very crisp.

I wouldn’t recommend a novice to open the back up for 2 reasons. 1. Fear of damage; and 2. Do you even know what you’re looking for?

Leave it to the watchmaker.

Bezel color looks off to me but could be the lighting.

Breng de horloge naar een juwelier. Kan je gelijk zien of die echt is.
En ik zou toch liever wat meer aanbieden aan die vriend.

Ikzelf heb de Hulk en volgens mij lijkt die die niet origineel.

SUCCESS !
