On my short list to acquire by years end...…….every time I contemplate skipping the AK for another model I always shift my focus back to the AK.

Cannot wait to make it happen.

Congrats-it's a beauty...……..

The Airking seems to gaining in popularity. It's one of those Rolex watches I really like a lot but don't have the balls to commit to. Huge congrats.

I got my Air King last October and super happy with it, so much nicer in person versus the photos especially when the sun hits the white gold numerals just right.
Congrats!

I went into my AD wanting one last July. They didnt have one naturally, so they said how about we try for an Exp I and an AK and see which comes first.

AK came in first (early Nov) and it looks TOTALLY different in person. No where near as "busy" as some say because the gold 3-6-9 disappears. The green second hand doesnt stand out and neither does the Green rolex. It's MUCH subtler in person. As soon as i put it on i immediately knew i was walking out with it. The owner actually came in while i was getting it sized and he had one on. Same thing from a distance talking to him. Totally subdued in person. I think the more people see if the more they see the pics almost oversell the color scheme and dial.

For perspective, this is about as close to "natural" wrist look that ive gotten:

I had a similar experience. I never liked the Air King 116900 until I walked into a Rolex AD in CT and there was one in the case. I asked to take a closer look and it’s WAY better in person. I walked out with it.

And thanks for the info, I had no idea there was a waitlist for AK.
They have been available in store at ADs where I live since the new iteration was launched.

Very nice can I ask if you buy an Airking from an AD what other watches does it open up in regards harder models with lists?

Congrats and welcome to the 116900 club. The AK is a very special watch, one has to see it person to appreciate and it is bound to be a future collectable. Enjoy it!

I can't really answer this conclusively - as there are so many variables to the question you are asking. However, I would say the AD knows you are interested in the watch for what the watch is, and it's unlikely you have an ulterior motive (flip it etc, it's not that kind of watch). For me, I'd say it hasn't hurt my dealings with the AD - but can I get a Sub without wait (even if I wanted one), heck no - but the door is open.

OP had similar experience that I did. Went in last July, watch showed in nov. one week before my 35th birthday.

I'd go with what Yess said above. You could tell my AD was all about making sure a local, non flipper, was getting it. If you buy an AK, which isnt a hugely "popular" watch (i.e. you can go buy it online right now for basically what i paid w/tax), i would argue it shows you fit that bill.

Currently chatting them up about a BLNR. So we'll see.
