It’s funny how our taste changes...if you would have asked me this a couple years ago I would have said the Sub but now my pick is most definitely the GMT. The sub is classic but the GMT is just more interesting and useful to me right now...plus is gives you a splash of color. You can’t go wrong though.

I would have both, they’re both special in their own way.
If I could only have one, it’s the sub. Classic style icon. But I hate choosing. |

BLNR. Sub is quite common but I am biased as have BLNR. I sold Sub and bought 116600 as a diver's watch.

I would bridge the gap and go with a GMTii LN. Classic black with all the benefits of the GMT function and beauty. Also and I know spring bar fit issues are at hand, GMT could receive a jubilee bracelet more appropriately than a Sub. Lastly, Sub Date is not the classic Submariner.

From those 2 the BLNR as it has slimmer lugs

I went BLNR first and then Sub (No Date). The BLNR got a ton of wear, but now the Sub (on Everest rubber) has become the weekend pool watch, so it sees way more wrist time.
If both are on bracelet, the BLNR is definitely more comfortable with its slimmer caseback. The BLNR also does a better job of making the case not look so square; I think it has to do with the quantity and balance of the numbers around the bezel (24 hr scale vs divers scale). |

I have both the SubC date and BLNR oyster and prefer the gmt over the sub, but just slightly. They are both great. Couldn’t go wrong choosing one over the other.

Would be a difficult choice for me I definitely prefer the GMT Master ll BLNR don't really like the Pepsi but I don't like PCL's at all so I would go for the 116610ln. However the GMT Master ll on a jubilee bracelet is a perfect watch. This is just my opinion you need to decide for yourself since your the one paying.

Personally I like the Sub. I prefer the cleaner style bezel. I never like the BLNR.

Of the two I'd take the Sub Date. The GMT function is useful for me but I've never liked the BLNR. The colour combination puts me off. I think the more recent Jubilee bracelet has, if anything, made it look worse.
The Sub Date is a classic in black. I prefer green and blue, but the black/black is iconic. Each to our own. |

GMT function would work better for me but I bought the SubC. The 60 minute timer actually works pretty well
Both were available when I bought my SubC. I regret not getting both |

Personally. I got the best of both worlds. The now discontinued 116710LN looks similar to the sub with the versatile black. Has the GMT function, the pop of color from the Rolex green, and the PCLs which make it stand out from the Sub. My personal favorite Rolex, past or present.

There’s no incorrect answer. My take? I assume it comes down to movement & use preference. Black Subs (all model years) are kinda dime a dozen. They are cool & brilliant looking models. The font on Sub bezels are crisp & sharp. I can’t say that about 6-digit GMT bezel fonts. While I prefer watches w/ darker bezel colors, a little contrasting colors are cool - like the BLNR, Coke GMT) & the 24hr movement. So they still dress up or down. After repurchasing my 116710 BLNR, I swapped bracelets w/ my Sub as I prefer the brushed SS look. I wear it more now. Just wish 6-digit GMTs had more than 24 bezel clicks for timing. If would recommend buying either an Oyster BLNR (and a 5-digit Sub to save a little cash & have more variety). In most lighting, the blue looks darker anyway. Just wish the font wasn’t so “look at me”. Note: if you asked your question differently, I would recommend a 16710 GMT with 3 bezel variants including all black. No question about it. |
