The Polar definitely looks so much better in person than in pics. I especially love the splash of orange on the GMT hand and "Explorer II" font on the dial. My buddy has one and I'll try to get a duo pic this weekend to post.

It’s not my most worn, but I go back to it all the time. I particularly like how versatile it is in terms of pairing it with a variety of strap options. Here it is on a Rubber B for example.

I bought the polar 42mm in 2013. Since that time it’s accompanying me all over the world as due to it’s under the radar style on a black strap even the areas you wouldn’t go out of choice.....!! I don’t have large wrists but as it’s flatter than all my other 42mm it does appear bigger, doesn’t put me off in anyway though. Paired it with an Explorer 1 for my 40th....can’t go wrong with Explorer. Great pics by the way all.

Thanks all for the replies and the pictures! Definitely lots of food for thought, will consider between black and white and also between the five or six digit references. Don't have any other five digit references so maybe that's a good first

I like the size of the case and dial, but not a fan of the look.

The Polar was supposed to be my one and last proper posh watch. It was so far out the other side of my expectations that it turned out to be my first Rolex.
Putting the engineering, finish and quality of materials to one side, since you already know all about that, the Polar is unique. There is nothing else quite like it and if Rolex go all ceramic on it in future there will never be anything like it again. What takes it from beautifully stylish and legible for me, into the realms of stunning, is the blue lume. Against the white dial it looks beautiful. |

I originally purchased the explorer because I could not afford a sub at the time. Now that I have both I really appreciate the looks and size, and versatility of the white dial. Mine is the older 16570 but I have 6 3/4" wrists. If I had larger wrists I would probably try the 42mm version. It is my go everywhere watch and definitely spends more time on my wrist than my submariner.

The polar Explorer II was the watch that got me into Rolex! But I’ve never owned it. I’ve had the black dial for 5 years and it’s the one watch that is never on the chopping block. It’s my daily and the watch which would be the last one standing if I had to get down to one.
I’ve toyed with the idea of adding the polar dial for years, but alas, there are just too many other models I want to try. One day perhaps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The 16570 was one of the last Rolex references I initially thought I'd buy...yet it became my first. I can dig the splash of orange in the new 6-digit (jumps out much more than the red GMT in the 5-digit), but the new old GMT hand and 42MM case size of the 6-digit are just not my preference. The 16570 flies so far under the radar that sometimes I forget what I'm wearing.

I wish Rolex brought it back in 40mm. The watch wears big for my 7 1/2 wrist.

Back when I was looking for a GMT watch, and was drawn to white dials, I had 2 main contenders. The Exp II (both iterations) and the Omeaga Seamaster ‘Great White’. Never saw the Omega in person but did see both iterations of the Rolex. I thought the 6 digit looked a bit bloated and cartoonish, certainly on my relatively small wrists. The 5 digit however....
I’ve had my Polar 16570 for nearly 4 years now, and it’s my go-to watch for most things. It’s just a solid all-rounder. That’s with a Speedmaster Pro, Bremont Alt-1ZT (special edition), Breitling SuperOcean 42 and Seiko SKX009 in the mix as well. |

I think that the 42mm is amazing; the 40mm even in "Polar" is kind of drab. Needed to edit and add that the 1655 is my favorite of the three :-)

Love the Polar Explorer II 40mm. Would quite happily just have that as my only Rolex watch.

A modern Exp II in 40mm would absolutely give me serious thoughts about flipping my Sub.
