fitness has always been important to me. To many of my friends, it is not. And it never will be. That does not mean they should be insulted.

I am dismayed by the level of insensitivity.

You are quite silly as I have every single right to call "MYSELF" a fat Pig and a PORKER because I was one just like I see going into Wal Mart buying there Cigs, Chips, Ice Cream , Hotdogs and garbage..

It is still a daily struggle to remain fat free with tons of hard work involved. I will never go back to being a porker if i have any say so in it.

Short and sweet on nutrition. If it Looks Goos, Smells Good, and Tastes Good then most likely I will not touch it.. I do not eat no dinner but on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with other 4 days only a nasty vegetable smoothie in the afternoon about 300 pm after my nap... I have quite a heavy breakfast of Eggs, Walnuts, Almonds, Brazil Nuts, Figs and Dates the at 11am one yogurt with honey...

I am able to crank out 165watts of power every single morning on my bike at 0400am.. You also must remember at 66 1/2 I am no kid or spring chicken any more.. if one thinks that is easy at any age, give it a try sometime..

Bas, if you're only 6" tall, at 135lbs you must the widest, long

"Nasty vegetable smoothie" made me laugh!
I played cricket most of my life, good standard of football 'till I was 40, tennis 3 times a week, till I was 50. Always weighed less than 150lbs untill ......a bad diagnosis put me on steroids about 8 years ago. My Consultant, laughed when I told him I was cycling 10 (hilly) miles per day to try and control my weight. Nice bit of encouragement eh!
Anyway, I'm 71 in August, still shoveling steroids in, still cycling 10 miles a day on my ratty ol' mountain bike, and still a 200lb PORKER!!!

You have every right to be very proud of what you have achieved.
From, one FAT PORKER to a skinny, ex-PORKER!

Can’t beat cycling for weight loss - been on Covid Furlough since April - took up cycling again, did 400 miles in April, 1011 miles in May and 800 miles in June with up to 140 miles a day now when the weather allows. Lost a stone and 2 inches on the waist since I hit the bike again.

I’m 50 next month and the last time I did that kind of mileage was when I was 16 and racing before I switched to rugby for the beer and the women.

Riding that bike 70,000 miles had nothing really nothing to do with weight loss as it was a "COMPLETE" and I STRESS Completely life style change that included losing friendships etc. If one call it a diet its nothing but a Croc of Sh... as 99% of the time they lose weight then put back on double what they lost. It takes a very disciplined person with dedication and will power that hardly anyone has or can maintain..

You can cycle 5000 miles a month and still be fat as hell quite honestly...

Please do not think I am calling or pointing fingers at anyone but my self when saying a I was FAT HOG PORKER because that is what I was and not ashamed of it one bit. What one does about a issue they have is what counts and the proof is in the pudding with me. How big is your "WANT TO"..? The want to for 99% is not very big and thats why billions of dollars are spent on weight loss with no avail but become more PORKIER...:) Your a trooper and are doing great for your circumstance.. Keep at it young fellow..

I’m sorry but for me it’s simple - if you are burning off a shit load of calories that you were previously not burning off you will lose weight and you will get fit. I know about racing cycling and I have the miles in my legs - when I was 16 I did 12000 miles in one year.

Well done for what you have achieved. But I will carry on in my own way enjoying my rediscovery of cycling at 224 lbs and 6ft 2 happily overtaking guys doing 40 mile rides on their top of the range Pinarellos / Colnagos when I am 80 miles in to a 120 mile ride. Each to their own.

Agree. Dropping is one thing. Keeping it away isn’t easy. I’ve found equilibrium at 148lbs which is around 60lbs lower than peak.

Your transformation has been outstanding. I can only imagine the effort it took. Congratulations.

Brequet, many many many congrats. I played division one college sports at 175 pounds, Although I’m short, I was solid muscle. Here we are 35 years later and I’m 185, still solid muscle.... (OK, maybe not). But I keep myself in decent condition with exercise and eating fairly. To me, it’s a personal thing for every human, but take DECENT care of yourself. If you are in to cycling/running/swimming 8,000 miles a week and maintaining zero percent body fat, more power to you. If you take 30 minute walks four times a week and maintain a decent weight, more power to you. I hold respect for anyone that takes DECENT care of their body and health.

OK, just thought of a funny Drew Carry skit on Jonny Carson, talking about how fat he was.

If I put on a pair of bikini underwear I look like a Bartlett pear with a rubber band around it.

Kudos for keeping it off.
I am 5’9. Slowly the weight crept up to an unhealthy 200, got my butt in gear with better diet and cardio/weights and now I’m 160. Have maintained this new healthier weight for 9 months. The maintaining part is just as hard as the losing part!

Congratulations on your efforts, OP, and the rest. Losing it is just one thing, maintaining it in the long-term is even tougher, and you are one of the few who made it! Again, congratulations, and enjoy your now extended lifespan :)

You are 100% correct about calories in vrs calories burned..! If you take in 5000 calories a day and only burn 3500 calories, there will be an effect..:) It was not rocket science or did I need to read a book or see a doctor, it was just common sense and mega loads of discipline and will power..

Of course you can. Of course you have the right to call yourself anything.

Doesn’t mean you should.

But hey, if you are comfortable with insulting other people in the process, have at it.

For this to work for a extended period of time, it requires a life style change of old habits into new helpful habits. Anyone can lose weight and lots of it, however very very few and I mean few are able to keep it off for 10,15,20 years.. I now am approaching 12 years of a fat free life and no turning back for me..(I HOPE)..!

Sigh...

Anyone reading this thread that is overweight, or resembles his before picture, or has a problem losing wrought, is also being referred to as a fat porker. Or a person with no will power.

Yes. Anyone has the right to say anything about themselves that they want. But simply by association it is also referring to similar people.

Just saying. There are other ways to say it that might not make someone else feel like a piece of

One can be proud of themselves all they like. And in this case, he should be. It’s an incredibly hard thing that he did.

And again, I agree with you. Anyone has the right to refer to themselves in a certain way. But clearly anyone that is currently in his “old phase”, will potentially awesome his comments as insulting.

Maybe they won’t. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I’m too sensitive. Maybe I’m not. I prefer to err on the side of caution. I just don’t like to make people feel badly about themselves.

thanks and it a accomplishment that few can do because of the dedication and will power it takes.. this is not for everyone and I could care less how others lead their lives but this is my calling with no reservation at all. Once a year my high school class of 1972 have a little get together and except for a few, the rest look like they need to be in the geriatric ward..! HAH :)

Daily Regiment..

My day starts out at 2am with a 1/2 pot of coffee, two 1/2 boiled eggs and a plain piece of toast at 0330am then dressed and put bike on car bike rack being off to the bike trail with wheels rolling usually 0410am. This is every single day of the year with only a few exceptions like weather or traveling. I usually ride 25-30 miles and these are not just joy riding miles but a extreme effort on my part.

This is a way of life to me that has become addicting like nothing else...!
