Sock’s and sandals is ridiculous but happens occasionally with tourists, old guys and even quite a bit of the younger crowd these days. I think it’s atrocious but to each their own, it’s not my business why they’re wearing that attire. However, most of you flip flop haters must have a terrible time anywhere on the coast of Florida or in the Bahamas. Flip flops aren’t just a choice of footwear around here, they’re a lifestyle.

I don’t let the decisions of others impact my happiness or emotions to the extent of changing my mindset unless they are direct decisions that affect me personally. Lighten up a little and laugh inside instead of sneering and you may realize life the dress codes and opinions of others have zero direct impact on your life except for entertainment purposes.

Comfortable. Also, it feels freeing to do it. I feel older and wiser when I do it, but my wife doesn't let me leave the property that way.

Give it a try and let me know.

Also, I try to go to the 7-11 in my slippers and am stopped every time.

Disclaimer: concrete floor in the cottage.

Second disclaimer: sandals and such are somewhat mandatory here on Cape Cod.

Agreed that it’s a terrible look. The idea for some is to flaunt knitted designer socks, and while it might be unfairly associated with European tourists, it seems derived from Japanese tabi socks, taken up by the likes of musician Ezra Koenig. Looks extra bad when it’s sports socks with, for example, Nike sandals.

Fisherman sandals with socks are okay by me, as long as long trousers are worn.

I have a pair of fisherman sandals around here somewhere that have never been worn. If I can find them, I think I'll wear them with socks tomorrow.

Given the things I see people wearing these days, sandals are the least of the fashion faux pas.

In fact, what passes for fashionable these days is often deplorable, if I may use that term.

It's been twenty-five years since I saw the first male wearing his pant below his buttocks and today, that's the least of the outrageous fashion statements one is likely to see on the streets.

No go on sandals or flip flops and I’ve almost joined the no shorts crowd too. There are too many summer pants, sperrys, driving mocs, etc that can take care of everything now and still look nice.

Why would any man intentionally wear flip flops?

Seriously.

Especially men of "Fashion and Taste" as mentioned in your OP.

Cloth straps on my flip flops and cloth strap on my sub. The sun set two hours ago and it is 85 degrees out, feels like 92. No need to wear extra clothing.

Just wondering, if you are anti shorts as well?

My father had a very strong "no shorts unless you're at the beach or pool, or gym, or exercising" rule.

He also never exposed his toes in public.

I once backpacked through south east asia for two months in a pair of Havaianas during typhoon season, but that was without socks.

My poor feet.

No, I'm not anti shorts. I just combine them with a classic white sneaker.

Chewy should start a Men With No Taste thread

or a thread asking ribbed or non-ribbed... or bareback.
