Do you like it? How much do you get back if you return just the watch?

If you were to use the money for something else that is more important than purchasing a Rolex, then I think your guilt is well deserved. (Such as paying medial bills, debt, mortgage.) If not, then why not enjoy the fruits of your labor? Like others have stated, buying a watch should be thought through with a lot of analysis not a quick purchase, after all unless your Bill Gates, the majority of people can not afford to spend thousands in the blink of an eye. I hope for you that the watch hasn't set you back too much, enjoy your timepiece.

Time...........................
In a week, you won't even think about it. Happens to me every time I make a purchase, after a week, I really start enjoying the watch. If that doesn't do it for you, have it sized for her.......That will really work. As a matter of fact, I've lost several watches that way.........Good Luck.........David

It's a great watch for sure at a really good price, but not thinking about spending $10K and then doing it on an impulse really isn't something I'd be happy that I did so I can see your point. Good luck.

All such great points. Thank you all!!
I've had it on my wrist since I walked in the door tonight. My wife says to keep it. I look at as 10 grand sitting on my wrist. There are a lot of things I could do with 10 grand like payoff my car or take a large chunk out of what we owe on her car. Then again, like you guys have said and my wife has said, even though it is on the credit card, we can pay it off over the next 12 months and not have to worry about it any more. We're not going to go hungry or miss a house payment or default on the car notes, but it's still 10 grand on my wrist. I feel like I deserve it and that I've earned, as my wife agrees, but I just feel guilty about such a large purchase of a toy. Of course, I've spent this much money plus some on motorcycles in the past and have never blinked an eye about that. I don't know guys. One minute I say I am keeping it.....the next I start thinking about it and I say I'm taking it back. It is absolutly beautiful and if for some reason down the road and I'm in a pinch, I could always sell it for close to what I have in it. AHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I never thought the moment I purchased my first Rolex would leave me feeling like this. Of course, when I bought my first nice watch, I thought about returning it as well. Hmmmmmmmmm.......guys, it's hard. I appreciate all your words of wisdom, please keep them coming as I debate what I need to do. :) Where's that Jack Daniels at?? |

It is a large purchase.......... and it is 10 grand on your wrist...........
but in a few months, it won't even have been noticeable in the grand scheme of things... Besides, like they always say....the first time is the clumsiest, and most difficult..........

You were obviously drawn to that watch enough to buy it. Don't regret it, just enjoy the fact that you are now the proud owner. Overthinking at this point will only provide you grief. Sit back and enjoy!

I have that same feeling everytime I make a large purchase (anything over a few hundred bucks). I think it is a built in safety mechanism embedded into our psyche that helps protect us against foolishness. I had similar feelings on each of my three watches and every car I've ever bought. I fought this when I got my TT Blue Submariner by paying about 80% of it and putting it on lay-away. I gradually paid down that remaining 20% and when I finally got the watch I was thrilled with it.
Think about it this way...when your great-grandchildren pass it down to to their lucky heirs, they'll laugh at great-grandpappy worrying about the measley amount that beautiful watch cost. It'll be hard for them to believe how incredibly cheap those vintage Rolexes were way back when.... Wear it and enjoy it! The very fact that you're concerned proves that you deserve it. Rawhyde |

Keep it, enjoy it and stop stressing about it. However, get it paid off as soon as you can then you will really be able to love it.

Nothing more I can add here. Most all above is good advice. Go with your heart! Next time use the 24 hour rule. Get the facts and figure, get a picture of the watch or whatever item you're considering and then tape up the picture on your refrigerator. If you still really, really want it after the 24 hours have elapse, then go for it. This was a technique my mother taught me when I was a young boy and was want to do impulse purchases.

It may help to think of it this way, the Rolex was more of an asset transfer than an expense; it will hold residual value and years from now you may even be able to sell it for more than you paid. The earrings... well that's a different story.

That watch will always be worth a pretty coin. So if hard times ever hit you could un load it easily. Not to worry.

You mean you can return a Rolex to an AD in the U.S. no questions asked?

All good advice. Only thing I would add is get it insured! That way you can enjoy wearing your watch without the worries of it getting stolen or broken. I would recommend that you try Jeweler's Mutual Insurance.
Congrats on the watch, and the heck is a SERTI ?? |

Well if you had to use a CC to pay for it then it sounds like you cant really afford it, so I would return it if you can, but I dont see how you could since youve been wearing it, never heard of a AD taking a Rolex back once its been worn.

Again, all great advice everyone! Thank you so very much for all the information; I made my decision today.
I returned it. :( I nearly shed a tear when I handed it back to her. My reasoning: I have wanted, looked, and drooled over a Rolex for many many years now and I have always promised myself that I would not own a Rolex until I could walk into the store with cold hard cash to pay for this watch. Because I was not able to do this right now, as much as I wanted to keep it as having half of the purchase on the credit card would not hender my financial situation, I had to keep my promise of paying cash for my Rolex. I know what kind of deal I can negotiate on that watch in the future, so I know when I can go to the store with cash and buy my watch. Again, thank you all for your support and advice, but in the end, I can't break this promise to myself that I've had for so long. If I were willing to finance it, I could've had it several years ago and that isn't what I wanted. Thank you all! |

I would have kept the watch, but then again, I don't have a wife. You'll have a Rolex before long, don't worry about it.
