They can’t waste these watches on people who are one and done.

They have clients who will buy and keep almost everything they get in the door within hours; and many are not flippers. They call them because they are great clients and they know they will buy again.

My recommendation, ask them when they usually get new models and start making it a habit of stopping in a day or two later every other week. Just say hi, and tell them you are looking to see if there is anything new. Don't be annoying. You might be surprised and see a watch that isn't your first choice but one you can enjoy now. Buy it. Wear it back in each time you come back.

If you are truly one and done, you have been saving for this one watch and this is it for you for a long long time. Just go buy it on the grey market and be done.

MSRP is nothing if you can't actually get it. People paying MSRP for hot watches are not getting a "deal" or pulling one over on you... they are spending much much much more buying up other pieces for their collections. So if you really only want to buy one hot watch in this market, MSRP isn't really real, just buy grey.

Best of luck OP. As others have already said, purchase history is the most important factor in determining whether or not you will get SS pieces. Its just a terrible time if you want your first Rolex that happens to be SS sports model.

That would sound like a flipper to me if I was an AD. If someone wants a GMT and is OK with either the Pepsi or the Batman, I can get it. Or Daytona, if you're OK with either white or black. Etc. But as soon as you cast such a wide net it's almost like "I'll take anything I can profit off."

From all of the posts I’ve seen accusing AD’s of selling out the back door to flippers maybe it won’t hurt to have them think you may be one. Could possibly get you the watch you want quicker if they think you’ll flip it and be back to buy another in a month.

This is a really compelling way to look a it.

In my case, I have a watch that I love (a 16610), so I’m kind of take-it-if-it-comes with the AD watch—if it never happens, I’ll be content. I’m not going to pay the gray premium, even though I’d like to have to have a Batman. But I get the logic of this.

As for being a one and done: this hobby is an illness. :) Even if I say now, this will be the last watch I ever plan to buy, what are the f-ing odds? That’s what I said like 7 watches ago.

Aside from the flipper sentiments others have said (and I agree with), the SA wants a guaranteed sale when they pick up the phone.

They are going to call people who have asked specifically for the piece or offer it to their whales before you.

My personal opinion. I think the idea of ADs losing status because they’re selling to flippers is internet urban legend.
Flipping is a byproduct of the incredible hype and demand. Isn’t it the level of hype that all brands strive for?

In my experience, being flexible is a good thing. The ADs know the market, and understand why someone would want any of several SS sport models. It’s all about how you ask, if you’re a local buyer, and what relationships have been built. However (and this is anecdotal, of course), only the owner/manager actually decides how to distribute their incoming hot watches, and they probably won’t know your name unless you’re a big spender VIP. But you never know, I’ve also seen special watches skip down the “wait list”. Good luck!

All ADs are in business for one thing only to sell watches to anyone that has the cash to buy no matter the reference watch.
