Coming from an SD43 experience, I know how those tapered lugs affect the perception, feel and look of the case.
From above, the SD43 looks same size as the maxi case sub.

We need to measure the watch to confirm this, so far it just looks like the lugs have been slimmed while everything else about the watch has actually been increased by 1mm. It's impossible to tell from a pic.

The square box like shape is still there. Just that part of it is now filled with a larger bracelet end link rather than a thicker lug...I think it is a simple but effective change. Wouldn't unnecessarily call it an upgrade. Except the movement of course.

Still disappointed that many of the range now has the exact same black dial. And also by looks of it, bezel carry over from the 11 range.

Well said. Got my 114060 in Feb pre-pandemic for career milestone and have bonded with it way to much. It is my watch now. I love my fat lugged baby.

Exactly. It’s hard to believe that none of them brought calipers to give exact measurements. These watch “journalists” are total hacks. They literally just spit out whatever they think people will want to hear so they get traffic on their website. Hodinkee was cool in its early days. Now they are all just sellouts and their reviews are basically promotional articles.

The lug to lug looks exactly the same. Was not expecting that.

I can't tell from images where did Rolex get that 1mm, if it truly measures 41. I am also curious of the numbers of the new one vs the 11.

The crystal is a tad taller, so i doubt the new one isn't a bit thicker, which i wouldn't like, if i am right about it.

Look at the angle. On the left it is slightly outside the braclet. The one on the right is straight up and down. If you follow the edge of the bracelet line, it gets slightly wider as it goes up. The right one doesn't. Maybe it is just the way it was shot, but it seems a bit wider to me. Granted only a pic, but lay a piece of paper (to measure) on the right one, then the left, the left is longer.

Me too

I can't wait to get a set of calipers out and do some measurements.
To me -
Dial , Bezel, Crystal and case length are the same size (and I bet they are)

Just like I bet the OP39 is the same size as the OP41 (it's the same p/n with a 2 in it for the movement)

The new Sub 41 lugs look similar to those on the GMT

IMHO judging by these early pics it’s the best looking modern sub reference. Would have preferred they kept the traditional 40mm for sure, but the proportions on the new reference are damn near perfect to me. Can’t wait to see more live pics on the wrist and in the wild. But it looks like a winner to me if you have the wrist for it.

It is not enough of a change for me to trade-in directly, at least now. Will continue to enjoy and see if I change my mind in the future. The good thing is they look pretty similar to the untrained eye, so I can get some sleep now lol.
FWIW...I would not trade mine towards the new model.

I don't think I would trade an 114060 for it if I already had one, however - I don't, so I'm very curious about the fit on my wrist with this new model.

They are so close in size, I'd be willing to bet if you were blindfolded you wouldn't be able to tell which watch you had on without feeling the lugs.

I agree as well... but I do imagine that the new version will look better for those that choose to swap out the bracelet for a nato or some other strap. Happy to own what I have, fun to see the hype around new releases.

New Sub looks cool. I think Rolex did a good job with the 41mm and slightly slimmer lug look. I won’t be jumping in buying one. Still love my 114060. For me it’s not just about the watch but all the times you have with it.

Personally I don’t really care about the slimmer lugs/41mm debate. It’s all about wearing the watch and the times you have with it. Only way I will part with my 114060 is if I desperately need the money. I’ve had so many good times with that watch.

Hope people get their hands on the new Sub soon. Please post pics and enjoy every second with it.

So is the case on the 124060 still referred to as the super case?

If the lugs were trimmed but the end link is wider, the square look on the wrist will be the same IMO. If that's the case I'd not be that much inclined to add one but let's wait and see.

Here is a photo with grid lines. I had to do some alignment. Both are aligned at the edge of the bottom bezel, and the edge at the crown guard; not perfect but it gives you a reference.

Newer model on the left

But those slimmer lug lines are not really slimmer ,its just the bracelet being slightly wider ?
