use your rolex as much as u can.if u invested that kind of money for a watch then u need to enjoy it.Keep on wearing it and enjoy every moment. Don't worry about the scratches, it's just normal and u can have it polished anytime you want and it will look brand new again.

You are not alone, I felt the same way when I got my DSSD. After a while though, the scratches tell a story. Like when that &*#$%@ diver instructor bumped against me and gave the first scratch on my watch. Or that @#@#$ wall that I wasn't paying attention.

I figure, it's got enough steel on it that it can be buffed to eternity if necessary.

Seriously though, now that you've bought it and really love it, what the heck......just slip it on and enjoy that beauty - in the full knowledge that you have on your wrist one of the finest engineered watches in the world.....and that's saying a lot!!

When I first got my Rolex, I too had about 2 weeks in which I was hyper-careful with it. Then I realized that 1) Rolex will make the thing look as good as new after a service, 2) these watches are very robust, and 3) I didn't pay that much for it to be a safe queen. One of the reasons I bought a Rolex was because of how robust it was. A friend of the family had bought his GMT Master in the 60s prior to serving his first tour in Vietnam. He was a Major in the Rangers (paratrooper, Army, special forces). He jumped out of the plane, the watch ripped off of his wrist and dropped some 10k+ feet to the ground. He picked it up, put it in his pocket and fought through several tours with the watch in his pocket. Fast forward to 40+ years later, the watch looks as good as it did when it was first bought. It is knowing that with a hard life and hard wear that these watches will always look good. I wear mine for everything now (except for working on a car, I'm afraid I'll scratch the paint on my car, or if I'm working in the engine, really causing severe damage to the watch). My watch looked heavily worn, and yet still looked fantastic. I just had it serviced, it came back looking brand spanking new, and now I wear it all the time again. Once you start wearing it and get accustomed to the idea that scuffs are going to happen, the peace of mind is knowing that routine service will keep that watch lasting a lifetime and always looking like it's brand new. The scratches and scars are all character building for the watch and tell different stories! Wear it and enjoy it. You bought it and deserve to wear it. Rolex made these watches to withstand incredible conditions!

Boy do I know the feeling. I have two Datejusts, on SS and one TT turn o graph model and I was terrified to wear them at first but then like other I said to myself well you only live once and it is ridiculous for such a beautiful watch to sit in a drawer. I still baby them but they are on my wrist as much as possible.

I was wondering how easy it is to get scratches and dings buffed out of the watchband and or case. And also what is the general cost to have something like this done, can they make them look new again?

ALSO can anyone tell me the SIZE of the band I need for a DATEJUST, I was wanting to buy a used OYSTER style since I now have a JUBILEE and wanted to know the size to look for, is it 20MM? It is the older Datejust not the new bigger one, one is 1986 and then other 2002.

From an RSC (Rolex Service Center), it'll cost about 550 USD to have a complete service done on the watch. They'll re-oil, clean, make your movement as good as new, they'll buff the case, etc. and your watch will look like you just picked it up from the store. I can't answer your other questions.

To just have a buff job, I think you can expect to pay anywhere from 75-150 dollars, from what I have seen...

If you dont have a WATCH WINDING BOX for STORAGE, does it hurt the watch to just sit it away when it isnt MOVING AT ALL, I ask because I have two rolexes plus a very expensive and vintage OMEGA PIE PAN constellation, they are all automatics and I dont have winder boxes for them so since I can only wear one at a time (ok sometimes i do even wear TWO!) does it hurt to store them for long periods of time where they are not MOVING?

Also does anyone know if there is some sort of rule that you have to have so many POSTS in order to start your own THREADS, I can seem to post fine in EXISTING THREADS but it wont let me start my own thread, i just joined today by the way and only have a handful of posts but itw ont let me start a new thread only can post in existing threads, anyone know why?

Does it hurt to just store a rolex away NOT moving, like with no winder box, is there any reason not to do it this way, I have 3 nice watches and cant wear them all at the same time and one of them in particular, my omega vintage constellation pie pan in mint condition doesnt get worn much and the other two, both rolexs, I wear one but not the other too much and havent gotten a winder box yet so sometimes it sits for a month or so without moving until i take it out and wid it, does this hurt the rolex etc to just sit like that not operating or moving?

What is best for long term non use storage, NOT MOVING stored away or a winder box ALWAYS MOVING?

I actually went through a period when i would just look at my collection and wear a timex, but that changed over the course of 7 years , I wear a part of my Rolex collection everyday with the exception of the ss/Daytona, my DJ and yatchmaster TT have become my favorite pieces.

A fine Rolex, as you have, is meant for a blending of joy and usefulness.

Good call on not wearing it while you shower, shave or brush your teeth. Those activities would almost certainly exceed your watch's capabilities...

One day all of us will go to the big AD in the sky. So don't save it for a special occasion. Today is a special occasion. If you want to be careful and have every scratch buffed out go ahead but by all means get it on your wrist and enjoy it.
