Of all the ones I've heard I find Starbucks to be the one that is the most vomit inducing.

I thought batgirl was bad - but the nicknamers have outdone themselves with this.

It seems a little......desperate. Sorry

I prefer to use the ref number if I can remember it (or shorten it i.e. BLNR or LV), if not the model designation (Submariner or Sub, etc.). I think the only ones that have ever not made me roll my eyes are Pepsi, Coke, Root Beer, President, Bluesy, Double Red (if you can count that as a nickname). The only reason I ever use those nicknames is when I'm talking with my wife about watches as she doesn't remember all of the ref numbers and it makes the conversation to the point instead of explaining the color variants of the bezel before we get to the meat of the discussion.

I use them sparingly, and most don’t bother me, but batgirl ....
My favorite....Platona. Not that it’s catchy or anything, it’s just easier than saying or typing Platinum Day.....see what I mean

I think they should rename this forum to the kindergarten children under 6 year old silly nickname site, and not all real true watch enthusiasts use these very childish names for watches.

It’s just easier to memorize nicknames or at least the reference name like date just or date date or Submariner. I actually get frustrated when people start talking about a watch and only use the reference number. I have no idea what they are talking about and most times I don’t have enough time to look it up. There’s just too many numbers to memorize. If that’s your thing I have no problem with it and I certainly won’t criticize you for it or say that it’s selfish on your part making everyone take extra time to figure out what it is you are talking about. Why don’t we try to as a forum post both the model name and reference number together? That way everyone’s happy. I truly don’t think using nicknames is childish it’s just easier. In fact out of all the nicknames there is only one I can think of that was created in a bad way but not to be childish. It was created out of anger, hate and distain for the jubilee bracelet. Other than that all the rest of the nicknames seem pretty harmless.

Agree. Especially since many watch "enthusiasts" insisting on using reference numbers are grown men who are buying different colors of the same watch as if they were beanie babies.

Hmmmm, I never use platona. I usually just type Daytona or maybe pt. Daytona.

Padellone which is the 8171 Triple Calendar Rolex. Padellone is Italian for "Frying Pan". One very expensive frying pan indeed!

I call mine 115606 or 50th Anniversary Daytona for short. (Sometimes I even call it Platinum Daytona when I'm really cutting up!!!) On the other had I call my Slate dialed Daytona, "Slatetona," on occasion!!!
