It is a photo like this that was one of the reasons I sold my smurf. That watch has two different tones depending on the lighting. The one in this photo is the vibrant blue that I don’t care for at all. It also had a darker blue color that looked very good, though not as good as it could have if it had a sunburst dial.

I just can’t get over how much I don’t like that brighter blue color. YMMV, of course, and I do hope you are thrilled with yours.

I totally understand. Rolex has something for everyone. It’s good we don’t all like the same thing. It would be even harder to get the unobtanium pieces. I recall the first time I got into a 116619, it was $21k preowned. Same thing with 116719, $21k preowned. I don’t think those days are coming back, and I don’t wish for it, because things would have to be pretty horrible to create that price level again.

I wish it had a sunburst dial, but they failed to ask my opinion during development.

Here’s one with the darker look you mention.

The best Rolex made imo is the plain old submariner date fatboy. Destined to be collected.

Long live The Maxi! (sounds much better than Fatboy.).

I think it has more character than the newer model. To me the newer is a bit watered down. Time will tell, but I think Maxi will really increase in value.

Lug holes like Rolex watches from a few decades ago (aside from the 14060, which kept the lug holes until the very end of the run).

I once owned a modded "FatBoy" 116610LN with the lugs polished down and wide chamfers cut...I believe it was LAWW or ABC that did the work for a previous owner. It was pretty cool, though part of the charm of this generation of watches is the more square case. I may have to get another one.

Great pics! Huge fan of my 116610, which I've known as the Maxicase. Just to clarify are people using Maxicase, Supercase, and Fatboy interchangeably in reference to the 1166xx?

A watch that I always compare all my new additions to in terms of value, build quality, durability, finish, comfort, and bracelet technology. I have had vintage versions but love the heft and dimensions of the 11 series the most.

I suppose you would value a 12 series higher because it carries more heft and greater dimentional girth?
Moreso an SD43, and a DSSD with the DSSD having a superior clasp by any metric

The FatBoy name is already taken.

You’ll have to go with something like the Square Boy.

That would need some huge spring bars to fill those holes

The thing with the 12 series is I don't wear anything bigger than a 40mm which is why I recently picked up a new 116618ln .
