Personally I'd go with the two Omegas, but I would get the white or blue dialed Seamaster to add some color to the collection. If you're going with a black diver, then I'd go Sub.

Taking the capability of the watches out of the equation, you should take the Sub now, simply because they are not that easy to come by and if you decide you don't like in now or 5 years from now, you can sell it and get your money back.
Having said that, no watch collection is complete without a Speedy. It is a must and an incredible watch. Have had one for 25+ years and was my daily driver until I got an SD43 earlier this year. The Seamaster is also an awesome watch (have one of these as well GMT model) and again, I think every collection should have one. BUT, the reality is you can get those 2 Omega watches at any time you want, at a discount. They are not rare in any way and in supply (Speedy is changing a bit, but not a big deal). I would also suggest not getting 2 watches at the same time. Get one, wear it, wait a bit, and then buy the other. |

You’re most likely going to get biased opinions here because you’re asking on TRF. I would prefer the 2 omegas in this case. But I’d go blue dial omega with the speedy.

Speedy plus SMP300 > sub. I have both and while the sub > SMP it's a tough pill to swallow to say that one watch is better than those two in a small collection.

The Sub.
However, I'm a huge fan of the Omegas. I have a Speedmaster. Plus, I'll eventually get a Seamaster too. I have Submariner too of course which is my #1. Also, if you go with Omegas, consider a different color dial and the steel bracelet. Blue, white or chrome dials are hot. |

Rolex! Not that the speedster is not a icon, but a sub is classic. You really can't go wrong with the sub. If you haven't owned a sub before then you won't understand how much of a versatile piece it will be. But that's just me. Buy what makes you feel good!

I’d get the Sub first - iconic Rolex piece and much harder to source than the Omegas. Then I’d save up and acquire a Speedy, either new at discount from AD or pre-owned for even less. Then you’d have the icon of both Rolex and Omega.

This is really not a difficult choice: take the Sub when it's offered. You will no doubt be able to acquire the Omegas whenever you like.

Many years ago, I was on the verge of buying a Rolex dive watch...considering between the Submariner, Submariner Date, and the Seadweller. This was 1997, in a pre-ceramic, pre-Rolex drought time. The Submariner was the least expensive, about $3,200, MSRP, as I recall. Could I have afforded it? Yes, but it was a stretch. I passed. At that time, I wore my father's Omega Speedmaster Professional, a mid 1970s vintage. About ten months later, I bought an Omega Speedmaster, one with day of the week and month complications, at a fair price, below $2,000. It was (and is) and elegant chronograph. The dial is silver, as is the bezel.
Yet, the desire for a "dive" watch persisted. A few weeks later, I gave in and bought a dive watch. The Omega Seamaster Professional, with the blue wave dial and blue bezel (the blue color helped me raiionalize that this was not another "black dial/black bezel" watch). And, again, I came in under $2,000. Taken together, the cost was roughly that of just one Submariner. I congratulated myself on a bargain. Two Omegas, rather than one Rolex. And, in fact, I had two fantastic new Omegas, and they remain fine watches. I've had each serviced but once. I eventually put a alligator strap on that silver dial Speedmaster. And yet, the itch for that Submariner persisted. I couldn't bring myself to buy another high end dive watch, though. So, when I could comfortably afford it, I bought my first Rolex in 2002, a GMT Master II, with black and red bezel. Apart from the GMT complication, the black/red bezel helped me rationalize the purchase...as it differed from my other watches. That first Rolex is very special to me, a marvelous watch, one of those "if i only had one this could be it" watches. And, the GMT is every bit as iconic as the Submariner and the GMT complication is very useful. I used to travel quite a lot on business. And yet, the itch for that Submariner persisted. And, a few years later, I bought a Submariner Date. They didn't have the Submariner in stock, and I was in the mood to walk out of the store with a Submariner, by God. And, I thought, if I ever need to sell it, there will probably be more demand for the date model anyway. Another example of rationalizing when you want to buy NOW. I walked out with a fantastic watch. I still enjoy it immensely. And yet, the itch for that Submariner persisted. Yes, I had the model with the date. But, every time I saw the "no date" version in a shop, it called to me. That pure bred, no date complication, classic Submariner. Surely, though, it would be irresponsible to spend so much money on another Submariner! My rationalizations, however, gradually evolved...and I discovered the best rationalization of all. I am a collector! A collector collects the same item, more or less, enjoying the subtle variations...such as a Submariner with a date and one without. And yes, I bought that Submariner, the 14060M, just before it was discontinued in favor of the first ceramic version. So, if there's a lesson here, what is it? Buy what you really want. It doesn't matter if it's the best financial deal, or logical, or has a different look than your other watches. Buy the watch you really want THE MOST. In the end, that will prove to be the bargain. All these years later, I'm happy to report that I still enjoy all the watches that led to the Submariner. I still have them all, still wear them. As it turned out, I love watches. And, I've been lucky enough to indulge that passion. So, you can buy the two Omegas now. They are great watches, worthy goals in their own right. The Speedmaster, thanks in large part to its Moonwatch history, is as iconic as it gets and anyone who truly appreciates fine sports watches should own one. The Seamaster is a marvelous rendition of a classic dive watch, too. While Omegas have gotten more expensive in recent years (in the late 90s, they were a steal compared to Rolex), they're still a good value. I'm not a flipper. However, financial circumstances can change. As you will see others on this forum note, the Rolex does hold its value far better than Omega. You get the discount on a new Omega. But, should you re-sell, you will likely take a hit. With Rolex, particularly a model like the new Submariner, especially in the current drought environment, it will hold its value, and, very likely, appreciate in value, at least in the near term. However, all those considerations...the logical, analytical comparisons, the thinking with the rational part of your brain...in my view, should be secondary to the emotional satisfaction you get from obtaining the watch you really want the most. A very long answer to your question. You will hear many worthwhile opinions in response, but, the bottom line is...go with your gut. I suspect in your heart of hearts, you want the Rolex the most, despite the logical appeal of the Omegas. If that's so, unless building a collection gradually is something you want to do, wait it out, wait for the Submariner to be available. You can buy the Omegas now, and truly enjoy them, but I suspect the desire for the Rolex will persist. You will probably buy it eventually anyway. You'll have three great watches, if you're inclined to owning a collection. However, if you're more inclined to simply have the one watch you want the most, then buy that one. From your post, I suspect it's the Submariner you really want the most, deep down. Good luck! |

I am a huge Submariner fan. Owned 2 several years ago. Given the option I would think through this one. Both good options.
I’d go Sub now and Omega next. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Being biased towards Rolex, I'd go with the Sub.

The Omegas are discounted for a reason and when you eventually realize that you've made an enormous mistake, you will do well to get half of what you paid for the Omegas back on the Sales Forum.

I own all 3 watches and each of them are special in their own ways. One piece of advice that I would give is that you can get either Omega ANYTIME you want at a ~20% discount. If you’re able to get the Sub at MSRP it’s a no brainer. Go for that first and get the Omegas when you’re in the position to do so. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Buy what you like, not what’s the best deal. Agreed with that.
With that said, you’re on a Rolex forum so you should be getting leans towards the Sub. For me, I think the clasp on the new sub is horrendous. It’s huge in my opinion. The two Omega have a lot more versatility, especially if you’re going rubber strap for one and then manual wound chrono for the other (+the Speedmaster is an iconic piece, same as the sub). Sounds like you have a datejust, so some diversification is nice. Hard choice either way. |

You’re the second to mention the 20% discount on Omegas. I’m looking at a Speedmaster and wondering how that works. Do you mind sharing? Will the AD negotiate? Thanks! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Assuming you like all watches, then DEFINITELY the Submariner.
Why? Simple - you can get the Omegas any time. You can walk into any Omega AD and get any Omega you want (maybe not a Snoopy 50th, but literally any Omega you want). You cannot do that for a Rolex. So, if I was in your position, I would get the Submariner and then when I feel it I can take a walk/ride/pogo stick to the local Omega AD and know that I will get ANY Omega I want that’s not a Snoopy. Logic dictates you get the hard to get reference first (if you like it - I’ve turned down a Daytona Black because to me steel Daytonas are too light and small for my taste), and then you can always get the easier to get reference (in Omegas case, much much much easier to get references) at any time. |

Re-reading my comment, it’s actually a very easy choice. It’s a choice between one hard to get reference (that you like) and several VERY easy to get references (that you also like).
If the Submariner is at MSRP it really is a no brainer. All the best sir. |
