Tried on the Coke 16710 GMT

5 digit vs 6 digit is a valid dilemma. I think one has to look at the core use and naming of steel rolex sports models. The "sports" part in the name is key, you don't want a heavy metal watch when doing athletic or physical activities, I am a long distance runner and would never in a million years run with a 6 digit model, its just too heavy(garmin all the way!).

The 5 digit bracelet feels flimsy because its supposed to be light and is designed for sports like activities. That being said the 6 digits feel bank vault sturdy and engineered perfectly. They also have anti magnetic capabilities and anti shock resistantance. The ceramic bezels never fade but a drop from up high could shatter them.

Really I think it comes down to wrist size, a bias to or not towards more shiny features, weight preference and how much one values all the new techology of the 6 digits. Choose from those values and you can't go wrong. 5 or 6 digit refs are great watches that will last a few lifetimes and hold their value like no other watch brand.

It's my favorite Rolex watch in the entire lineup (pepsi 16710), and very rare a day goes by when I don't daily it on my wrist. Few others make it into the rotation but this remains king.

It is kind of funny since in nearly any practical metal work, excess metal is milled away that does not contribute to the structural integrity of the final product. Because metal is heavy and excess weight is a bad thing usually (but not always, sometimes a specific weight is integral to proper functioning.) I'm trying to think of one other instance were superfluous metal is left on, without an increase in structural performance, and the increased weight is considered an engineering upgrade. As others have noted the the high wear points are not affected by the extra metal in the case or bracelet.

I'm the opposite, I have a BLRO but I started to find it slightly too bulky for my small wrist.
Recently picked up a coke, and I actually prefer how much lighter and smaller it wears, with the jubilee I actually forget it's on my wrist and that's how I prefer it.

I like the look of the 5 digit. Sociopaths looks really good. But seeing it in person, having it inspected, and being able to make sure the bracelet is comfortable would not be an easy thing to do when buying online. And over $11000 on secondary market? Eesh. I’m waiting for the 6 digit to become available at the AD (hahahahahaa..). But I’d consider the 5.

I like everything about the 16710 reference except for the bracelet especially when you are used to wearing the 6 digits often.

I've owned a 16710 and now a 126613 and they are very different experiences. The Sub never disappears, you are always conscious of it on the wrist. The 16710 just felt balanced and comfortable. Just like you aren't constantly aware of a well fitting pair of jeans. I imagine the newer GMT with its maxi case would be even more of a presence, which sounds like a good thing in your mind (and a bad thing in mine).

I appreciate my 16710 for exactly the reasons you are not bonding with it.

I can tell you that of all my watches, by far I get the most compliments on the Pepsi. I'm sure it's partly a matter age but while I have a new BLRO on indefinite 'order', for me, it's flashier and showy and I'm much more comfortable with the low key 16710.

I got a 124060 today, feels a little bit sleeker than my 114060, so I am not all about the 5 digits.

To each their own of course.
