You described my experience in part as well - I’d dismissed the explorer after trying on several 5-digit variations and determining they weren’t for me, then owning the 214270 MkI and failing to bond with it (plus lots of others, in and out, etc.).

When I tried on the MkII though, I was sold immediately. Over 4 years of happiness with it later, still a huge fan!

Congrats on a keeper. Enjoy your explorer, it’s an excellent watch!

And thanks for the nice incoming post. The watch is new, but you already have an adventure with it.

Just to say, you’ve got a lot of work to do on your signature line.
Thanks, brother! I love that thought...it is a new watch that already has a 20-year history with me...well said.

Haha...yeah, definitely time to add to the signature line!

I bought an Explorer as my first Rolex. It saved me from buying additional Rolex models because it was such a flexible model, and had it as my one and only for some time. I always hesitated when I thought I was ready to pull the trigger on an GMT, Sub, etc.

I have the Mark 1, but I like the white gold numerals and the "short" hands don't bother me at all.

The good thing about the 214270 is that it still has the 3132 movement before the new reference with the 32XX movement is released.

Fantastic shot, I find my Explorer gets the most wrist time, it's been around the world, in the sea, festivals, so versatile. Explorer's a keeper.

I just recently bought my 214270. As you say, it’s the perfect watch. I wouldn’t change anything with it.

Interesting to see what happens to the Explorer range this year.
Thanks for the kind words! It is the small details that make the hobby so much fun:)

Congrats OP!

Was recently watching an interview with Roger Smith, the British watchmaking legend who came up under the even bigger legend George Daniels. Both Smith and his main shop assistant were wearing the Explorer 1 during filming. Says quite a lot to see a competitor's watch on the wrists at such a place. Enjoy it!

That was a big pro in my book! I am a bit leary to add too many 32XX movements to my collection until they are more proven. I have one in my SD43 and plan to add a 126660 DSSD shortly, but all the rest of my watches have the rock solid 31XX movements.

Thanks! I agree...the most versatile watch in the entire catalog IMO.

That is very interesting...I will look for the interview online. Thanks for sharing that.
