I think part of the issue is how similar an Explorer is to "dressier" options already. Unlike subs, GMTs, etc which were more purpose engineered and distinctively styled, an Explorer started out as simply a "dressed down" version of an Oyster Perpetual. Different hands and dial layout for presumably better legibility in adverse conditions, a little less polish, etc. So the answer to someone who wanted a "dressier" Explorer for non-harsh conditions seemed logical- get an OP (or DJ).
