Because some of us are still waiting for watches we ordred 5, 6 years ago, AD's have confirmed there is a 5 to 10 year wait for a some Rolex Watches.

WoS been saying this for a while now.... not sure why they treat existing customers like this. I'm sure the VIP's don't need to go in person. Makes you wonder how they are doing all their current "click and collect" business....

another non-WoS AD told me that they are not even taking names until May for any new watches.....and yes, need to come in person! Abit of a farce.

Good point.

Last time I visited my AD between UK lockdowns, I went in to drop off a broken Z-Blue. Got offered a BLNR and walked out with a TT Sky Dweller.

Fun, if somewhat expensive. At least the Z-Blue was a warranty job.

To your last sentence, the purchase of the Sky Dweller pushed me past the BLRO wait list inclusion mark. I had spent enough to get listed. Declining the BLNR and asking again for a BLRO helped also. I may wait years, but if my AD says I'm in the queue, I am. They don't play silly games.

Thanks it is WoS group, and I am really not a VIP client, just find it stange when they have my details already that I need to go in, after buying a few watches over the years, and they are really helpful on everything else

This is just Sales 101 — for cars, jewelry, watches, and certainly Rolex.

Get the customer in the store to further vet and qualify them... and show them pieces they can buy TODAY!

They make you try on a Yacht-Master, TT DJ, Cellini, Day-Date. You may fall in love with one and buy it. OR you may feel subtle pressure that if you don't buy it, you aren't doing your part to "strengthen the relationship." Either way, the AD wins.

It's business -- not personal.

This sounds like a good policy. It weeds out the people that just want to buy any watch that's hard to get.

AD's can and will say anything they like.
It is not as if you can go to Rolex itself and get any answers from them, and the AD's know that.
So AD's sometimes make up their own "Rolex rules."

They're trying to weed out people who don't want it enough to actually come in and talk to them in person. People like you, apparently.

Maybe it’s to stop AD’s from getting kickbacks when flipping directly to the Greys. I live in a cruise port city in Canada. After currency exchange Rolex’s are cheaper in Canada than they are in the US. Rumor has it that cruise port AD’s flip to US grey dealers, they do it by writing up the deal, AD’s tell Rolex that the buyers are cruise passengers wanting it delivered to them personally when they return home. AD jumps on the plane flys to say Florida, gets his kick back from the Grey, has a nice holiday and returns home. Then the cycle continues again. Having to Register Locally to purchase hopefully eliminates those types of transactions. I quit my AD for that very reason, he would commit to my order and then bump me for a “cruise passenger “

They’ll be over subscribed and they’re fobbing you off.
Without a very strong annual purchase history a Pepsi isn’t going to happen most likely, so they’re putting obstacles in the way.

If you do go in, they’ll try and sell you a window piece

Textbook example of the qualifying process working exactly as intended — filtering out the tire kickers. ADs have to deal with these nonsense phone calls all day long.

They’re having you on. With everything else going on, they’ll ask you to come in and try selling you something else now that you have popped in.

I think 3 rolex a year and other brands is a strong purchase history, they know I dont want a window piece

I called my favourite local AD and expressed my interest for a couple of 2021 releases, a DJ36 and a Pepsi on oyster. I bought a Bluesy and OP from them last year. They took my details over the phone and told me they are only registering interests at this point and will try to "favour existing customers over walk-ins". I didn't expect to be even considered for a Pepsi TBH. Let's see how this pans out.

My Daytona's and other Rolex pieces have all been bought from the grey market, only purchase history I have is with WoS for a JLC Master Control Chronograph Calendar in October (was told in a years time they could get me a sub). Now because of new rules from Rolex they say as of April WoS won't be allowed to consider any new clients for professional sports models without previous Rolex purchase history from them, joy. If I can get a DJ36 with a dial I want or an interesting OP without waiting yonks I'll play their game.

At MSRP, the demand for the item in question is greater than supply.

A method of allocation must be chosen.

Grey market dealers operate in a (relatively) unfettered free market. They allocate scarce supply against strong demand using PRICE as the allocation method.

AD's are discouraged by Rolex from using the most efficient method, price. So some allocate using "lists". Some allocate using "bundles". Some allocate using "history".

The AD mentioned is using a surcharge in the form of a visit. Someone will gladly pay it, OP won't.

Assuming OP isn't mega whale, does it really matter why he did not get the watch when demand is greater than supply?

With a grey, he may not get it because someone else pays more.

With an AD list, he may not get it because he was slightly slower to ask than someone else.

With an AD bundle, he may not get it because he is opposed to bundling or not willing to pay the bundle price.

With an AD using history, he may not have history as strong as another client.

What's the big deal? At MSRP, the demand for the item in question is greater than supply. The dealer must determine who will and won't get it. Do we expect to win every time?
