It depends on the reference.

For example to me:

Divers just look way cooler with no date.
The date complication makes sense on GMT’s.
Lastly, I think there’s enough going on, on the Daytona dial that adding a date would just “complicate” things YMMV

Well the Daytona is not boring to look at, even though it lacks a date ...

I think if you’re planning on keeping both the Sub and GMT which have dates, having the one watch without a date in your rotation, you won’t miss it.

No date , no question
My favourite two Rolex models are the Daytona and Deepsea, they have in common no date meaning no ugly cyclops!

I have Rolex and other brands with and without date complication. On ceramic I prefer the cleaner symmetrical dial. On GMT’s I am fine with the date. One of the reasons I own a Seadweller is the no cyclopes date. I am fine with no date on the Daytona. The Panerai 233 have a beautifully composed face while the 372 is super simple. But I enjoy them all the way they are.

Date for me but I love many of the no date references (Sub, Exp, Milgauss, OP etc).

So if you guys look at your watch at 9:15 a.m., and sign a document, are you telling me that you can't remember the date when you sign the next document at 10:45 a.m.?
I'm not understanding the inability to know what date it is.

Right, if someone told me last year that a date on my watch was important I would have laughed my head off. Every watch I owned at that point (GMT BLNR, Sub 16610 date, PAM 312 and a Breitling Seawolf Chrono) all had a date, (side note anyone know why the date could be important at 1000M ? ) Never consciously looked for it or realized until I bought a nice PAM 753 basic Radio with nothing other than hours and minutes and I find myself rolling my eyes a lot and going to my phone to see what day it is when I have this thing on. I think there’s an age element in play also..

Date is an absolute must for me. The only non-date watch I would consider is one of the Panerais with simple retro looking dial with no date. But that wouldn’t be a daily wearer...

I like having a date. What I don’t like is that given my aging eyes, I have to grab reading glasses to see it or ask my wife or kids to tell me what it says. 😁

Date was always very important for diving watches. Look up saturation diving - professional divers who work at big depths need to spend days if not weeks in decompression chambers, often (especially in the past) cut out from the outside world. Date function on the watch was crucial to have, which is why diving watches were the first ones to make the date window ubiquitous.

I really prefer having a day. I love my Daytona but I don’t wear it as much because it’s doesn’t have a date.

It completely depends on the aesthetic of the model. I certainly don't need the date as a practical matter. For the Submariner and GMT I like seeing the cyclops and feel like the date is part of the design. For the Sea Dweller, I love the date with NO cyclops. For the Explorer (or BB58 or Omega Speedy Pro) I think they have a perfectly balanced symmetry that I enjoy. The date would ruin those models IMO.

I guess I just like watches:)

Depends on the model. Some look better with it and some without. I tailor my watch to whether I need a date function that day or not.
