Not sure how I will be able to evaluate AD's honesty?

I don't ask so I do not have to filter the response. My AD did tell me there are no lists only interest and they decide who gets a watch. I do a lot of non-Rolex business with them and believe that I receive very fair treatment on those watches. I am not much of one to wait and our Trusted Sellers fill the gap.

Don’t sugar coat it, I can handle the truth.

I guess at the end of the day they’re just salespeople, not much different than slimy car dealers.

I don’t hesitate to go grey at this point if I really want something. Some are a pleasure to deal with. I’d rather pay extra money for a toy than grovel to some watch merchant and beg to buy some overpriced mass produced item.

Just salespeople... like slimy car dealers. Your observations tell us much about you. Perhaps your experience is a reflection of what you project.

Curious to hear people’s experiences when an AD says they *will* look out for a specific reference for a customer. Sure, the wait could be 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years, but if your AD says they’ll keep you in mind, do you expect they will make it happen eventually (absent extraneous circumstances like the model being discontinued)?
True story... my AD Has sold me loads of things (msrp deep blue, msrp discounted day date, 4 msrp subs, Daytona pre 2000, msrp 2 yacht-masters (one is gold),, 2 msrp women’s date just, discounted Panerai, msrp pepsi)) I like them. A few months ago a guy walked in to buy a Daytona.. new. I was there. I overheard all conversations. We were looking at rings.

Guy was soundly told no. No Daytona’s. Guy said, “I’ll take those three date just pieces, the pre owned Ralph Lauren piece, and that iwc pilot over there IF you ALSO throw in a Daytona —any color ceramic new—at msrp.. “

What happened... sales lady spoke to owner of store. They quietly brought out a Daytona from back area, guy left with 6 pieces.... I’m not sure what the total cost was but I’m guessing 80k -100k or so... in one deal.

Now, I’ve been waiting years for a new Daytona but have given up.. that angered me and I later told the store this via text msg to sales guy i know. I’ve spent big $$$ over the last decade there... many many thousands..

They should have kept the deal quiet so other customers, like me, wouldn’t hear. This is a Rolex AD.
The guy had bought so many pieces he was still paying etc when we were leaving. I guess I shouldn’t fault the dealer for doing that, but they clearly have stock “in the back.”

They should have kept the deal quiet so other customers, like me, wouldn’t hear. This is a Rolex AD. I told them this is a very shady thing to do in front of existing customers and they are now offering me their next available Daytona white dial, ceramic... I comically said, “oh... you don’t have one in back I guess... “ owner also gave us a nice bottle of wine from his personal collection.. you can’t make this up. It happened and it really opened my eyes. Sure some people here will not believe the story but my wife was so pissed off when we left.

The guy had bought so many pieces he was still paying etc when we were leaving. I guess I shouldn’t fault the dealer for doing that, but they clearly have stock “in the back.”

If they offered you the next available DaytonaC to effectively apologize, I probably would’ve stopped complaining at that point.

And yes, the reality is that if they have someone ready to deal or walk over a 80-100k purchase, they’re going to deal. We all fall in the pecking order.

They'll be honest and tell you that It's impossible to get various watches, but they'll certainly lie about the reason why. Most will say they don't have any in stock, while the watches are actually sitting in the back safe.

My AD is straight talking with me. I asked about an Aquanaut and was told politely he couldn’t make that happen. Didn’t try to get me to buy anything to get on the list for one, which he easily could have.

Honest. They tell me if it’s possible or not, and “somewhat” of an idea of timing

Completely understand your frustration
Same here, spent a lot since 2017, bought a Tudor and 6 Rolex watches from the AD in that period. Still no SS Daytona on the horizon (4 years since I expressed my interest), I also called for the 2021 WG meteorite dial. Somehow I've got the feeling that the WG will be easier to get than the SS. Will see...

I have worked with my AD over 20 years, he has always been upfront about what he can and can’t do... He does not play games, I don’t have to buy stuff I don’t want either.

Bottom line, when he delivers, he DELIVERS!! See an incoming later today from me.

Dr. process, Govberg is not my AD, but in 2009, I got a Daytona from them, and I can echo your statement, they were excellent to deal with.

Who knows? How can anyone know for sure. ADs are run by people and everyone lies. If you’re getting everything you want from your AD are they being honest with you?

I was told I cannot get a CHNR and suggested to buy some jewelry for the Mrs.
That was honest enough.

I think it’s the attitude one adopts and a good sense of humour goes a long way imho,
Mine was straight with me but I was realistic regarding what could be had and what couldn’t unless spends were massive,,,
I always get the feeling it’s a tad refreshing for them not to be asked constantly about sports models,,,

Call me crazy but I’m glad to hear stories that these guys do generally have some stock in the back. Makes sense and what I always assumed but good to know. Otherwise we wouldn’t have so many SS incomings.

My ad manager told me he could get me a BLNR in a couple months back in 2019. He came through and after looking at it in the store I declined it and told him I would really prefer the BLRO. He said very unlikely.

A year later I asked about my standing on the BLRO. He said not looking good but he would get me the BLNR again so long as I promised not to turn him down a second time. I promised.

I asked my SA about a Polar Explorer II in September, she said they hadn’t seen one in a year and said the owner determines who gets what and implied it was based on purchase history. Understanding this I said please add me to the list thinking it would be another year or never. She called me in November saying she had one for me. It was the worst possible timing just before Christmas but I asked for it and she made it happen so I bought it and added to my purchase history.

I dine with the a d owner all the time and rarely ask for anything.... I bring him bottles of good wine and vice versa. At days end attitude matters, yes.but money also matters..nothing is personal

I would say they are all opportunists and their inventory is dependent on what Rolex sends them and how often Rolex ships to them. I would sell to preferred clients and let new clients start with purchasing what's in the case. When the AD tells you that they don't have one they are being 100% honest because they don't have one for you, but they do have one for someone who is one of their better clients. He or she will get one.

I went to an AD here in Colorado with no prior buying experience. I told them I wanted a Rolex Explorer. They mentioned the wait time to get one would be about a year, but would put my name on a list if I wanted. I told them to go ahead, thinking nothing would happen. Ten months later, I actually did get a call from them saying that they had an Explorer in stock if I still wanted it. I was a little surprised that they held onto my number. I told them hell yeah and picked up the watch that day.
