I have two friends with SD43s and on paper they seem HUGE but in reality, they are fine. These friend's do NOT have 8.5" wrists either. The SD's are easier to come buy and aren't super hyped 2nd hand. There is an SD43 Two-Tone for sale on these forums for MSRP plus 2% markup.... The SS 126600 fetches more premium but only about $2500 (22% Markup) over MSRP vs subs that are fetching $6k over. Grab what you love. Buy a watch to wear it.

I am a big fan of Sub, but I think the SD43 TT will work best for you.

I have a 7.5 inch wrist and the sea dweller is just too big. On the other hand the sub is pretty small by my standards now. its not the diameter of the SD, its the height and the weight. I just whacks everything around and gets hung up on things (cabinetry, doorways, whatever.) A 47 mm panerai is much smaller than a SD.

The SD looks and feels a step above the sub in every aspect, substantially more.
I got a 7.5” wrist and the sub looks so small for my taste. The SD43 is spot on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I own a SS SD43 and LOVE it, and I went to try on a TT Sub this past fall (black/gold) and i mentioned the TT SD and the SA went and pulled one from the back.
I also have an 8.25" wrist and think the TT SD with all the hashes on the bezel was a little too flashy for me (it stood out on the wrist in a way the sub doesn't), and part of me probably wanted some variety in my collection. The white text on the sub looks really crisp, so I went with the Sub. Both are great choices, you can't go wrong either way. |

I'd like the lighter weight of the Sub in comparison to the SD. That would be what would drive my decision! Price might also influence me!!

For your wrist size I'd definitely go SD. The sub will probably look tiny on you

8.25" wrist you have GOT to go SD43, absolutely!
You wrist will eat that watch up. The Sub would look small on you. Go get that SD! |

With a wristsize like yours you can pull off the SD easily. It will also give you the advantages of the new movement if that is something you're interested in ofcourse.

I used to have an 18K/SS Submariner with black bezel and dial. Sold it years ago, but always liked the combo of black, gold, and stainless.
When the SD43 came out, I loved it. I still really like it, so when the Sea Dweller was available in 18K/SS I jumped on it. I still really like it. Actually wearing it this weekend. My brother has the new Submariner in 18K/SS and really loves it. The SD43 wears too big for him. You’ve got to get what you love the most. My SD43 on this evening: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Depends what’s in the collection I’d go with a SD for one watch. Definitely more versatile. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My wrist is 8 1/2 and the TTSD is so comfortable, wear mine 24/7,wore Subs for 30 yrs but find this better, don't worry about buying as an investment, just enjoy wearing it and owning it,far better return for your money I reckon.
Hope you can find one. |

Good news, I’ve got a Rolex on my wrist again!
I am pleased to report that I am no longer Rolexless, to coin a new word perhaps.
I got a bit of luck 2 weeks ago when one of the Rolex dealers I’d called when I began my search for a TT SD called me to say they had just gotten one from Rolex. By the end of the day, I became the proud owner of a brand new, bright and shinny Rolex Sea-Dweller, stainless and 18k gold. You were all correct, it is one beefy watch. I love that it closely resembles my TT Sub I lost in the armed robbery in January, and I like it’s larger size and weight. I wear it 24-7 and love it. I’m glad I came here to seek advise on a replacement for my stolen sub. If anyone attempts a robbery while I’m wearing this baby, a smack from my wrist bearing the Sea-Dweller will probably knock them out cold, lol. Thank you very much to each of you, I greatly appreciate all the great advice each of you provided. Stewart |

I’d always choose the Sub over the SD for daily wear. If it’s a rotation watch, then the SD43.
Caveat ... with the SD43, some of us have experienced wearability issues due to the SD caseback design. YMMV |

I've got the SS SD43 but have seen a TT SD43 at the AD and it is a striking piece. I like the sub as well, but in the long run you may like the fit of the SD better given your wrist size and the fact the SD is not as common. Whichever way you go, you're sure to be happy.

As far as value is concerned, from my experience, Subs always are better investments and retain value better than their upscaled brothers. On the other hand if buying on the secondary market it might be easier to find a SD at near the same price of a Sub so if you like its size better it might make sense to buy the SD. I'd shop and find the deal that's best for you. In truth, the Sub will always be in greater demand because other than watch nerds few people know of Sea Dwellers. Good luck with your search, I hope you find the watch you want and share it here once you get it. Quote:

But the Sub 16613 the seller sent me this time was what I call rough condition with clearly visible scratches on bezel, crystal and bracelet. Not worth the $11k I paid so I sent it back and opted for a new SD TT. And I’m so glad I did. I’ve had the 43 SD on my wrist almost 24-7 for nearly a month now and I love it. I’ll admit, the first 24 hours or so, it’s weight was noticeable vs the Omega Speedmaster I’d been wearing in place of my stolen Sub. But I have quickly gotten used to the weight and anything else I try to wear is likely going to feel like a toy because I’m used this near half-pounder SD. And, if anyone tries robbing me again, I’ll smack him on the head with my left wrist and my trusty 43 SD TT will probably knock him out cold! BTW, I got a call from another dealer this week whom I’d called during my search for this new SD. He said they’d just gotten a SD SS from Rolex. If anyone is interested, it’s at Davis Jewelers in Louisville Ky. I believe the AD’s name was Skip. One advantage of this SD over my Sub for me personally is how it seems to be easier to read at a glance, especially the date under the Cyclops magnifier on the SD without my glasses. Oh, I went ahead and put the first scratch on the clasp on the bracelet of my new SD on the first day, just to go ahead and get that over with. Ha! (True, but luckily a minor scratch) |
