Locals are going to be allocated the harder to get models, by and large. Anyone can go in and buy whatever is in the display and available to all.

If that's the case, I think we (and even some dealers) may be misinterpreting "local" in this context. When I read that, I read it as the sale must consummate locally, as in an in-person transaction vs. an order phoned in and shipped.

Rolex plays games with ADs and ADs play games with customers.

I can see why they would want to sell locally and build a relationship with a client where they might be able to sell the same person multiple watches vs selling someone out of state one watch. I would say it would also depend on which watch as well.

I am currently seeking my first Rolex and have called/visited a lot of AD's in my state. Several have asked me where I live, as they only want to service local customers.

If you buy in Ohio and have your AD mail your watch to your home in PA, will you avoid sales tax?

The AD in Ohio with whom I spoke expressly told me that shipping was not an option. If they were able to procure a watch for me, I'd have to come back to the store to buy it in person.

You are absolutely in their market IMHO. The AD I like most has told me they will sell to those who live pretty far away as long as the transaction is done in-person.

The AD I got my Submariner from in the UK told me, when I first spoke with them, that they favoured local customers.
I explained that I had lived very close to them for 16 years and had only recently moved away but that they were first to come to mind. That worked and the Submariner was on my wrist not long after. |

In the UK, and from what I gather in the US, Rolex cannot sell their watches to an AD, then tell the AD who they can and cannot sell their stock to. It may not be the same in all territories. The OP is a a buyer in the US. |

I can't imagine New Hampshire implementing that policy.
God created New Hampshire so the rest of New England can shop sales tax free for expensive watches and jewelry! |
