Time is money....

And if you have the money, the time is now.

I agree, to a point. If the wait is potentially years, I’d probably do it. I’ve evolved a bit on this topic.

Don’t put much time into the single location independents, they are not in Rolex plans moving forward.

Even in 250,000+ metro population markets?

Last time I checked 2 tone subs were running $18k and are a MUCH better choice in my opinion.
You can get a steel watch at Walmart or the nearest Dollar and More store.
To hell with waiting. Buy tomorrow, wire the money and get the watch Thursday morning.
**** the Ad's and their corrupt games.

How much do you value your time? Life is short, just go gray. If you get the call later, sell one.

I didn't realize the grey price of a Sub was bumping up against retail for the Bluesy.

Are the Bluesy and Root Beer also hard to get from ADs? Cause honestly I would rather have one of those at retail than a steel Sub for same price.

If you are not interested in buying other stuff, ADs have a strong incentive to not sell you this watch at this point in time (a year from now, that might or might not be different.) If you don't want to buy other stuff and you want it relatively quickly, just buy secondary market. Otherwise, AD 4 sounds promising and you could potentially negotiate a single transaction where you get the Sub at the same time as making the other purchase.

If you want a 12xxx Sub, you're going to take an especially good hosing going secondary. If you are also interested in 11xxx, you can often find ones in used condition that don't have nearly as insane price tags. I went in that direction as mine was always destined to get beat up anyway from daily wear. That said, I went into buying with apathy towards the future price of the watch-if it goes up, I don't care. If it falls to less than 1/4 of what I paid, I also don't care. YMMV.

This. When I decided I wanted a Sub a little less than 3 years ago I just didn't feel like all the hassle to go the AD route (having tried that with the usual hysterical results of a noob going into an AD to look at subs). And with the AD's around where I live their attitude didn't help... Of course back then the secondary market mark-up was nothing like it is now on subs. I couldn't fathom, at the time, why I would want to "Establish a relationship" with someone who treated me like I just fell off the turnip truck.

I've found one or two decent AD's since then that I visit occasionally to chat with and stare at watches I don't want...

That’s exactly the place I was last week. Wanted a sub as well and went gray market. Since the difference was pretty marginal and I was spending over retail I found a new 124060. Couldn’t be happier.
I still would love some other Rolexes down the line and will patiently wait my turn at the ad but will not buy pieces I do not want to wear. Except now I can patiently wait as I get to wear one for a while.

Picked up my sub bnib for 1500 over AD list. Great deal & I didn't have to suck up to an AD. Win win.

That sounds like a good deal - not too much if one doesn't want to play AD games.

Does it have te be a sub? Maybe they can get you something you will love just as much if not more....If you have your heart set on the sub then waiting is part of of it these days...keep in touch with the AD and sooner or later 'the call' will come....much better than going grey which only makes the market more complicated....I would not play into that.

The bluesy is not so difficult. Got to try it twice at my AD before getting the call for the SubC date.
