Lovely trio. I too find myself gravitating towards watches in the 36mm range. The 40mm watches that I do own tend to wear smaller than listed (ex: Daytona, Nautilus)

What is super head scratching for me is why is it only Rolex doing these sizes?

The one in in the middle, who needs more watches than that one?

I think for some reason the lug design and shoulders of the watch makes it look larger, and of course precious metals wear bigger. I have a zenith 36 for sale in another forum because it looks so small in my wrists.

Have to agree. My collection is a variety of 40 and 41mm, stainless and PM. However, lately, I have been drawn to 36mm. Specifically for PM models. Something about 36mm is appealing. Not sure if it's the old thought process or tradition of Rolex pm pieces being smaller for elegance. Or the fine balance of weight and size making the watch a comfortable fit on my wrist. My wrist size is close to 7.75", but I wear a 36mm very loose, almost in the fashion of a bracelet. Due to the 36mm size it isn't top heavy making it uncomfortable when worn loose. Recently picked up a 36mm date just PM, 116238, 2015 model, and it's getting more wrist time than my 40mm day date and 40 mm GMT yg. We will see how this develops lol.

That’s what I thought too before i saw the yellow.

The yellow actually took money away from Nomos. I was in the market for a colourful dial :)

Nice, looks good

I doubt other sport models (aside from the explorer) will get a smaller case. Watches with bezels will remain +40mm. If I am not mistaken the actual dial size of a 40mm bezel watch was roughly that of a 36mm watch
I think only the Milgauss and airking could get a bit smaller

I, too, am a johnny-come-lately to 36mm. Bought a DJ 36 Turn-O-Graph earlier this year, and love the look and the way it feels on my wrist.

Wish they'd done the 36 with XI-style hands and no date...

Green canvas is aftermarket. I like the bracelet but prefer this piece on straps.

The slightly wider lugs and the slightly narrower bracelet on the new Explorer definitely makes it look bigger than 36, and the larger markers and numbers also gives the illusion of being bigger. Kind of the opposite of what they did to the sub. Thanks for sharing.
