With the collection you have, I wouldn't park so much cash on a watch that I wouldn't wear a lot. It's a great watch but will you enjoy it as often as DJ? I would consider keeping DJ and if I needed a dress watch to wear occasionally then I would try to find something with the extra cash you are adding on top for this trade. This is just a thought but OK, I am not a great fan of dress watches :)

Would do the trade, but I am biased. See the signature.

The Lange model you have in mind is quite versatile and can be dressed down or up depending on the strap. I would wear it with a neat polo/jeans without any hesitation. What you're getting is top horology. What you're letting go is a commodity.

I like the lume on the DJ at dusk. DJ 41 is becoming my go to watch. So easy to tell time. Day & night.

I would do it. Lange watches are getting more difficult to source with good discount and much lower production. You can get back a DJ down the road if you change your mind.

I have decided to wait before purchasing the Lange 1815 Up / Down.

Basically I am satisfied with my small collection (pic below). If and when I purchase the Lange I will keep my DJ41 believing it is better to add than swap. I can always sell later if I find a watch is not getting any wrist time.

Thank you to everyone who provided their advice.

Best,

Best,
That three piece collection is close to perfect in my book! Good call to stick with what you have. The DJ is an incredible watch and can certainly occupy the dressy end of you collection just fine. If you still feel like you want to dress it up a bit consider trading the blue Datejust for a TT YG champagne dial or maybe one of the TT RG options. Regardless I think a DJ belongs in any serious collection

I would keep DJ, it goes with everything.

Save more money and get higher model of ALS as a classic dress watch.

I have the RG version. I used to only wear it on special occasions but I recently changed out the strap to something more casual and now I find myself wearing it more regularly. It dresses down better than you think, probably more so for the WG version. You can’t really compare a DJ and an 1815 U/D and the prices aren’t really comparable either. If you’re able to swing the extra $10k then go for it. Saxonia thin would also be a good option and you would save a good chunk of cash.

Best,

I was one of the cheerleaders for the Lange, but great decision.

OP - If you’re thinking about it, it’s because you can envisage events and times where this watch will feel better than the DJ. In that case go for it. In my case I have zero use for such a delicate piece, so it’s a hard pass. But I do understand those who still need something elegant, and the celini lines is simply useless for that in my view.

I don’t think so. I think the Lange is a perfect addition but i wouldn’t want to get rid of the DJ.

Definitely YES
What a major step in quality, mid tier mass produced piece to a top tier hand finished watch of genuine haute horologie
