Great story, great persistence !

I just say though that the majority of the excitement will be down to Winning so to speak I.e. the battle for managing to get it for half price (half market price) with little to no relationship, rather than pure love for the piece itself..

I feel ya though. No harm in that

Great story. The concept of owning a Rolex is so powerful... when you finally obtain the piece for which you've been lusting, you feel like a special member of an exclusive club. The brand power of Rolex is undeniable.

Well done on your new GMT! Although your "Walk-in" acquisition is slightly misleading as you basically walked in 2-3 times a week for 6+ months? So built a decent communications relationship and waited 6+ months.

Anyways, wear in great health!

No GS! It was too much of an Explorer II homage anyway (though the dial is fantastic - see photo). I knew I would just get bored and want the real thing if I "settled" - though I do want a GS Hi-beat "Iwate" or "Peacock" GMT someday, and maybe one of the "double sapphire" divers.

I am happy for you, but the described chain of events makes me vomit .. It was interesting in the beginning of a shortage few years ago where you could have a feeling of accomplishment once you get a call but it turned out to be nothing but disgusting.

There's no way I would go through all that and drop by the store 3 times a week for a watch, waiting for some lady to decide to sell me luxury item (no matter the 80% premium these watches are bringing anyone who gets them). It's just not worth it for me. But I realize now they will never want to let go the power they have over the buyers and things probably never get back where they were unless some tragic economic world wide event occur.

Love this post! If you want anything in life you have to be persistent. I preach this in my every day life and with my friends and family. This post is a great example of it. It’s how I got all my references in my collection not being a local to my ADs.

The posts where folks admit defeat that they’ll never get a specific reference are a bit depressing. It’s all possible, but starts with what you tell yourself!

+1 This was more a story of persistence and opportunity, versus the impression the thread title gave. Regardless, happy for you. Wear in good health

I really like this story .

I was born on the right side of the track, but was 30 years old, three degrees, medical specialist..and had the equivalent of $20 in my bank account . It was Jan 2000 .I borrowed money from my wife to buy a 16710 Red/Black later in the year .Realizing a childhood dream too.Now I own many, but that was special .

Blessed are the foot worker .I believe in that .I visit in person and do face to face business.Your persistence paid off .Good sales assistent too .She was analyzing you the whole time .

The investor/flipper guild on this forum can learn a lot from this story .This is what it is about .

Congrats and enjoy !
