You can't REALLY be certain that the scratch happened at the dealer, now can you.
It could have occurred after and you didn't notice, especially since 'some amount of time <indeterminate?> had passed.' Just sayin' there is no real proof.

Unless you have high resolution pictures from before, and tell them immediately, nothing is going to happen.
Also, even if they think it’s their fault, they will only offer a polish, which is something I advise against. |

I've had my Sub C for 10 years. It's scratched and dented AF from natural everyday wear. I enjoy it like that - it's unique rather than sterile.
Celebrate this one as the first scratch of many. |

Well in the real world because of the high magnification it look a lot worst than it actually is. Its quite a minor surface scratch on clasp thats easily polished out at normal routine service only to get scratched again in normal wearing.

I have RSC return my deepsea with the back case scratched like they used the incorrect tool to open it. They never accepted blame but took responsibility to replace the titanium back because they said they didn't inspect it prior to work to know if it was there.
I basically said, unless I grew sand on the back of my wrist...there is no way it could have gotten scratch especially when it was a 1.5 year old watch at that time. |

I feel the same way, since the scratch is on the left side of the clasp and I wear my watches on my left wrist it's a very difficult spot to scratch with normal wear. |

Dude I sent my GMT for svc in PA. Came back, beaten, gouged, and wrecked. So much so that my AD ended up swapping it out for crispy new one.

I sent my watch to service and the AD took pics of it before sending it out. I did asked what happens if it comes back scratched? He couldn't really answer me and said it highly wouldn't happen. I think he was new as he was still waiting for his business card.

I'm ok if I've done that, but not if someone else has done that, especially a service center...

Sorry this happened. You have a good attitude about this. I would chalk this up to lessons learned and move on.

If this damage WAS done 'in house' by RSC, what would concern me is that, somebody would have noticed it (the scratch) but decided to release it to the customer anyway, and if he does notice it, we will deny responsibility.
It's all very well for some (ruffty-tuffty - "I bang nails in underwater with my 1680") types here, to simply brush it off as 'just a little scratch' on a tool watch, but as a paying customer, we should all be confident that we'll have our timepieces returned to us, after a service, in as good condition, hopefully, better, than we handed it over into their care. |

OP, you have a great attitude but I'm sorry this happened to you and I'm further sorry you've had to defend against so many nonsense replies in this thread. Yes, you should have looked it over very closely before walking out, lesson learned. But the combination of RSC telling you the original problem was your fault and then further almost certainly causing this damage would really boil my blood. If he was worth a damn as a skilled watchmaker he would have come out and apologized for the mishap (obviously he knows he scratched it) and offered to polish it out if you wouldn't mind waiting a few more minutes. What a jerk...
