Interesting conversation about white gold Rolex.

I had lunch today with a friend, non-WIS, and we were discussing my obsession (I would rather call it a passion ) with Rolex. He actually is very understanding, he has collections and passions that I don’t get, so coveting a certain brand or type of item makes sense to him. He brought up his grail, the actual item that he hopes to have one day. He asked about mine, and I explained it was a gold version of the sub I currently own. He shook his head yes and said how nice a solid gold watch is. Then I explained it was actually white gold. He asked: “So it will look almost exactly like the one you have now?” I answered yes, (except for the blue bezel) it looked the same, it would just be gold. He got a puzzled look on his face. He was not condescending at all, but he just didn’t understand. If you want an all-gold watch, then why would you get one that looked (almost) exactly like the (steel) one you have now? I tried to explain that it was really more of a private acknowledgement thing, ME knowing that it was all gold and I had reached my grail piece, (besides the feeling of the extra weight), but I have to admit he had an interesting point.

My grail is the 126619, and I will get it… someday. I know I am going to smile every time I look at it, that is enough reason for me, but the way he put it kind of made sense too, i.e If it looks (almost) the same, why spend the xtra money for a WHITE gold watch?

What do you guys think, especially you WG owners.
