Your AD sold you a great piece. Return the favor and trade-in back through your AD if they can get the watch you want.

Financially this seems to make sense, especially if you really favor the platinum DD over the RG. However, like others, I would lean toward the watch that I enjoyed wearing. I like the RG/olive better than the platinum, and thus probably wouldn't do this.
That being said, it would be tempting to sell your "hot" DD for maximum cash, and then put that cash toward a high horology piece outside of Rolex. Lange, Patek, VC, independent...so many magnificent options out there. Best wishes |

Given your situation….I’d definitely do this deal. Those two DD’s..PT & YG, are outstanding, and their differences in metals, looks , etc…is a good thing in a collection.

If that’s the end game to a watch YOU really want then go for it. You are just using the current market to your advantage which is smart.

[QUOTE=Sub*Man;11662357]Thanks for the feedback guys. Interesting how many don’t prefer the bezel on the platty.
Also, I did mis-type; I have a standing offer for $55k from David and $58 from Avi.[/QUOTE Don't even think about it...Go with Avi. |

I’m clearly the contrarian in this case. I much prefer the smooth bezel and as such I’d take the platodate all day

One other thing to consider: The one DSW is listing has the old bare metal seconds hand, not the newer blue painted one. Not sure whether that matters to the OP, but worth noting.

I would trade up but to a Patek. That is me. Wear what you like and ignore the hype.

Just double checked the Rolex website. It appears the painted blue hands are now out of production and only the steel hands, across all blue dials. Thanks for bringing to my attention though for sure.

To me the answer is simple trade it in only if you like the platinum DD more. Do not trade it in just because of the monetary value.

I do think fluted is way to go for that watch and it’s unfortunate it’s not available in platinum.

a $5k upgrade into platinum is a no brainer if that's what you want. for me though, that rg day date beats platinum all day every day
i get that plat is the ultimate piece but i just feel like day dates deserve colored metal |

Well as I was advised by a few good pals I’ve made here on TRF, you only live once so if it’s the one you want then go for it. I’m personally after the RG Chocolate to make a hat trick of RG models.
Don’t think I’d ever do the Olive unless offered by my A D as the only option. But anyway I say go for it. That’s what I did on my last 2. And quite frankly I’m happy as can be. Post some pics of that growing collection when you get a chance.

I would do it. I don’t see long term value in the olive DD. It looks way better on Instagram than in person. It really is a hype piece and day dates historically don’t hold Value well

the value comes from the unique color combo and it being an anniversary model. it'll be discontinued eventually. hard to look at the past as any indication of the future though, rolex never played the games they're playing now and we've never had a market in this current state economically
