Without commenting specifically on the bezel insert in question, I will say that the eBay seller seems legit. Some apparently nice watches and parts for sale. Nothing screams fake, from what I can see in a quick look.

If you look at the 0 of 20, you can see its not right. OP, we're not picking on you or putting you down deliberately. It's just so you know what you have.

I understand you are not, he told me it was Fat Font, i appreciate the help. The seller has actually sent me another fuchsia insert now as I have questioned the authenticity of the one in question from the pictures i posted.

I have them both in hand and I need to send the first one back, It seems very odd that they or the first one would not be real, but I trust the input some of the guys on this thread have put. I will upload some pictures of them both shortly, I have emailed them to John just now and he is looking over them both.

Being one of the more vocal in this thread as to the origin of this insert I want to explain my thinking without giving clues to those who produce and sell these parts. There are 3 major red flags that would steer me clear of this insert.

1. the insert appears to have been chemically altered in order to achieve a faded look.
2. the insert appears to have been treated with some sort of abrasive also to achieve a fade look so my assumption is the fade on the bezel has not naturally faded.

this raises the question who would do that to a 3000 dollar insert?

but the most obvious detail which has already been pointed out is the font which is so strikingly similar to the latest batch of dodgy gear doing the rounds of the internet that it can't be anything else.
It's very possible the seller has no idea because parts like this are becoming more and more difficult to identify, and once they gain acceptance in this community they become de-facto genuine. Here is an image of the same insert before the aging treatment straight out of the UPS baggie. (image borrowed from the net, photographer unknown, the complete watch shown is bogus, sorry mods if I've broken the rules by posting this just want to contribute to the collective knowledge bank)

But this is not a fat font bezel you are showing? fat fonted bezels would look different to your example?

I'm not convinced the underlying insert is fake, just chemically altered. The top hole in the 8 in 18, and some other things, I have seen on inserts from 10 years ago. the bottom of the 22 looks right, and the kick on the 0 in 20 looks right.

Fat font is the style of the print, there are several and David's photo is a fat font. Chemical fading is done afterward to achieve a certain color combo / look.

Hi,
if you look at other fatter genuine inserts, the zero of the 2 of 20 is of the same thickness or fatness as the 2 itself. Here, we have a fat 2 and a thinner zero. If we look at the technical (boring side) of it, I really doubt the pads of the 2 digits have worn out differently with time.
Not arguing with you, just a thought for you to consider

Yet it has other common traits like the previously mentioned teardrop 18, and the wider 0 in 10 over the narrower 0 in 20 - we all have some different tells.

Lots of guessing here. I’d be very careful to judge the origin of this insert without being certain.

Good Morning,

So here are three further pictures of the insert, removed.

After I have contacted the seller and explained that I am doubtful it is an original insert he was adamant it was and he had one other watch for sale with the Fuchsia insert he said he will send me that and I must send him the old insert, so I am also going to post pictures of the new insert he has sent!

I must say he said the new insert was better condition and valued at at least 2000 more and was not happy I was questioning him. He has no more Fuchsia inserts, but he does have lots and lots listed for sale for other vintage items.

Im hoping that they are both original and will send him one back!

Here is the new insert the seller has sold me, stating how much more value it is worth and again, demanding the other older one back, which of course I will send.
I look forward to your thoughts.

The seller sold you and sent you a new insert in one day??
Also, I thought he sold you another fuchsia insert (“The seller has actually sent me another fuchsia insert now”)

He sent me this in one day yes, he sold the watch a week ago, and its because I complained about the first one, which I need to send back

This one is chemically aged as well. Not very attractive at all in my eyes. You can clearly see how the top coat is eaten by something.

I understand, but as long as they are original I would feel better! lots of people saying it was aftermarket which shocked from a reputable seller.

Bingo….. that guy is a fraud……your seller buys from that guy probably by the handful….experiments chemically/artificially fading them and flips the fakes……the second one is more pink than fuscia also…..prob used too much bleach on that one….

Now you've got me second guessing the Pepsi insert I've recently picked up.

Be gentle...is it authentic.. or did I get taken.

This dude is trying to sell a watch made in 1967 from a store that was closed in 1966 lol.

I guess its possible if it was made very early in 1967 but seems sketchy, wouldn't trust that insert at all. Especially with the link to those aftermarket inserts from IG.
