There is no crazy demand and different than before. At least I don’t believe so. In 2017 every dealer in Los Angeles was overflowing with nearly every model. Now zero? Demand never changed that much.

Of course demand can change dramatically in 5 years.

Demand has gone up a lot. Instagram bonus boys and reduction in supply due to Covid being the main factors. I will say however that dubious practices by AD’s has also gone up in the last 5 years! Combine all of those and you get to today.

Great.

Then there is no problem for you to get the watch that you want?

Or you yet another conspiracy theory believer?

But what is true is that the true non sexual love for watches is dead and now they are merely objects for £££$$$€€€

Sorry OP. First thing you asked about is a very in-demand stainless model. I think you immediately got tagged as a flipper and was brushed off.

in this case they just want individuals, in the scenario that the OP posted about, to just go away, hence the "years" response.
I'm not sure that's the case. AP, FPJ, PP (OK some are less desirable and can be quick) and some rarer ALS - years is the norm these days. I think "years" for a BLRO is just simply true!!

I registered my interest for a BLRO last September and was told 3 years. I have recently been told I can expect it beginning of the year. Purchase history was my airking

AD 2 who I got DJ and jewellery from is still saying within 3-5 years

AD said years…

I think I’ve said this before on this forum, here are the options in my view:

1. If you plan to build a collection and are looking for a DD40 (however even these have become hard to get nowadays) and some TT DJ watches for your wife, this should get you your BLRO faster
2. I believe in the USA Rolex ADs also sell Jewellery, so perhaps you need an engagement ring or so, that could get you a BLRO faster
3. Maybe you know someone who’s a VIP and already has everything and is willing to help you out, that could get you a BLRO faster
4. If you really love the BLRO and only want that, you have to be willing to wait for years or go to a grey dealer and pay the premium for instant gratification.

This is the situation globally, no matter where you go.

If you’re looking to get a BLRO at MRSP because you want to feel good about having a watch at MRSP that’s worth double the price, you’re too late to the game. That train left the station late 2017 and it’s just getting worse, not better.

When all the VIPS have the whole Rolex collection, do they still need more?

These people never wanted these watches 10 years ago and now they feel the need to own them all?

Impossible imagine there is 500+ in the "waiting" list for the GMT II, so they want to add one more entry for you and pick you in years - the AD must make this judgement for every single customer, so it's easier for them to say years or impossible depends on the AD policy to allow the so-call waiting list to be added or not. If not giving up so start to create relationship with that AD and see if you may get lucky.

The idea that there is a list at all is optimistic.

If the AD has a pool of 100 potential customers, who would they call when they get new supply in? The guy “next” in line? No, they are going to call customers who do lots of business, make jewelry purchases, etc. The guys that are a lock to buy whatever comes in. PM pieces, etc. I’d work my way down that “list” in terms of customer priority.

They may satisfy all those customers at some point, then get to you, but they may not. New big spenders may arrive, move up the list, and cut the line. VIPs get in first (or at all) because they buy overpriced bottles.

Hot clubs simply can’t let everyone in, there isn’t enough space / supply.

They don't want new customers.
They probably can't serve the demand from the existing ones.
Sometimes I have heard ADs calling them ''the true fans of the brand''.

Look for a new AD preferably smaller market with less purchasing power.

I’ve pretty much accepted that if I want but my first Rolex, I’ll be paying over sticker. Unless I find a rich uncle.

Yes… I’ve loved the 16710 for years, ever since I first got one in 2005. There is a lot of nostalgia, charm, and a certain aesthetic.

But, every now and then when I look down it looks a bit older, a bit more tired, a bit more worn… and then I look at the 126710 and think “Wow! What an awesome watch!!!”

I believe it’s more about people that are known to the AD for buying Rolexes for themselves, from before the craziness started (late 2017?) so the AD knows they’re ‘true’ enthusiasts and not looking to flip it as soon as they walk out the door.

The ‘new’ (post end-2017) Rolex enthusiasts unfortunately have a hard time convincing ADs that they’re just buying it for themselves.

I tried to create a relationship last year with an AD in PA and after a year nothing has come of it. Last year I moved to Nashville and went to the AD there. I had my RO on at the time so we had a conversation about watches. Exchanged some information and kept in touch. Over the weekend I got the text! Solid guy and we had a conversation about how he and the store doesn’t like to sell to flippers. He feels it’s unfair, but that we feed the market.

I think it all depends on the AD. I started a new relationship with a nee AD. My SA has been honest and has kept Great communication with me. After several purchases and 1 year I was able to get the call for my 2021 Pepsi. My SA knew that was the watch that was on the top of my list.

Talk about not having class. I doubt there are any language issues. I simply disagree with the BS that has been coming out of your mouth. Thinking your GMT is the best and that an older GMT is a flimsy toy.
