Great to see you enjoying this watch!

I’m very envious and would love to have a 5 digit sub in this condition.

I also bought my 16610 in 2001 (May) in the USA. I recall it was almost exactly $3000. Still a firm favourite, and frequently worn. Serviced once, ten years ago, but not polished at my request.

Mine also has the flat S/flat 4 combo, making it much more valuable than any other 16610 ;-0

How's it running? Just curious how many seconds a day?

Huge congrats on a great watch. I remember seeing plenty of 16610 Sub Dates in dealer cases over the years and have always somewhat regretted not getting one during the original production run. So I started an informal search a few years ago and began looking at the pieces coming up for sale on TRF and elsewhere. A few months ago, I came across this beautiful Z-serial from a trusted seller on TRF and I quickly jumped on it. I am so glad I did; I am 100% thrilled with this watch and couldn't be happier with it. I hope you continue enjoying your 16610.

Great story. Mine is original, and never polished and will be 23 this year and worn more days than not over that span. Still love to take out the booklets, the anchor and look through things from time to time. Enjoy and im sure it will continue to serve you well over the decades. Holding onto a watch like that and wearing day in and day out is where the meaning is created.

Last of the great pre ceramics... Mine is a transitional piece as well as yours but in a different way...

Pointy 4 insert, no holes case and engraved rehaut and your case is sharp as a knife like mine. Great example...

I bought my 16610 in 1999 at a AD for full retail which at the time was $3650.

Have to agree.

No one could pay me to own a modern rectangular-ish Maxi-case / shatterable ceramic bezel Sub.

Love my 5-digit Subs with the nice case proportions and tough, unbreakable aluminum bezels. Of course, most all Rolex today will never see a diving usage.
And the older bracelets are great. "Tuna tin clasps" is a created term, much as the news media has created their own term for a specific weapon. That myth of substandard bracelets keeps getting passed around at the watch forums.
Hollow link bracelets are easier to clean, too, easier to 'flush out.'

So interestingly this is a u series and from my research about august 1997. I got this Christmas 1998. That means it’s was sitting at the AD almost a year before it was purchased. Can you imagine that in today’s climate!

It was serviced once at year 17 (my AD guilted me into it)’and never polished.

Indeed. The reality is the 5 digits were easily adjusted, just as strong as the new bracelets (as they are held together by the same pins) and lighter. While a heavy bracelet may be equated with luxury, a lighter bracelet has real world benefits for a tool watch. Most days, I forget I have the thing on and thats how it should be. I have owned the newer bracelets (on my 116520) and it was not more comfortable than my 16610.

When it was serviced at 17 years young, it was about +4. Its now between +1-3. I found it to be more accurate than my 116520 when I had it.
