Multiple watches - used once. A 2 or 3 year old sub stopped for no reason. Fixed and full service. No explanation given. Came back with a scratched crystal. Send back and I had to pay for the replacement crystal. Plus side two green service pouches.

I got both of my Rolex in 2019 and so far no problems even though I don't wear them everyday but one week of each month I wind them and let them run for a week just to give the movement a little workout..

Don't shoot the messenger but Paul Thorpe says he has "never" heard of a Rolex going back within warranty.

Anyone sent a watch back recently? What is the current 2021 estimated turnaround for warranty fixes at the Long Island, NY RSC?

Using the AD, I sent a 2021 in a couple weeks ago.....

I did, my 126600 was losing 5 minutes every 2 weeks. The turn around was about 5 weeks.

I had a 16610 in the mid 90's that the second hand would run backwards every time I'd pick it up and started the movement by shaking/moving the watch. I sent it in to RSC twice for the issue and it wasn't resolved either time. I ended up trading it. The AD had the nerve to tell me to keep it because it was "so unique".

Paul is entertaining but his advice is so-so at best.

Icon3 Related Question

This thread brings up a question I've been meaning to ask. In the book 100+ No BS Watch Tips, I believe the author, himself a watchmaker, writes to always get a complimentary service on a watch right before the warranty is up. The logic is, because it's done at no cost to the owner, one should utilize this option and save big money on the watch's first service. Does this method work with Rolex/Tudor? If so, can anyone recommend it from personal experience?

I used my warranty on 3 occasions

1 on a DD40 with the late date change
1 on Skydweller with a scratched dial
1 on a DJ41 that had late date change and a speck of dust under the crystal.

I had my Blue SkyD for less than a week and had to take it in because there was water under the glass. Took over a month to fix:

How many people actually use their warranty within the first 5 years?

I’ve lost count of Rolex and Tudor watches I have bought and none have been repaired under warranty, Patek on the other hand is a case of all bar one, some went back three times in the two year warranty period you get from them.

4 months since my Submariner's 5 year warranty expired, thankfully didn't have to use it.

My AD told me RSC is very backed up and it may be 2022 before I get it back. I didn't expect a 24 hour turn around but 3+ months to fix a well known issue on a modern watch was a bit surprising.
I think they normally take off a few weeks at Christmas through the start of January. Wonder if that affects the turnaround.

My family all together had had about 10-12 Rolex over the years. Never once did anything malfunction in them. Ever. Most averaged 10 years without service, some went 25 years without service. One went less than that, but fell 40 feet and while mangled a bit, was still running. Can’t blame that on the watch. All were worn doing many active things and worn as most here would wear a gshock.

Warranty doesn't include a "complimentary service". It only covers breakdowns and defects, not preventive measures.

Had to send in my BLRO that was losing 8-10 seconds per day. AD quoted about 2.5-3 months return time back in August. Should be receiving it back early November.

About 3 years old.

Twice. A 116618 had to get repaired after 3,5 years for winding issues. The other was a GMT-Master 2 that hade issues with date change. Both were quick fixes so I recon they would have been cheap repairs if they would have been out of warranty.

Just used it for my Polar as it fell off a table. Sapphire crystal getting swapped as well as the bezel. And a few laser welding / injections around the crown. Estimated to be around 1.4K though. Still waiting for it to come back from RSC.

Sent my DJ 41 back for the movement issue. Watch bought January 2018, started losing time dramatically (10-15 seconds a day) about 6 months ago. Sent to Dallas, took about 2 months, now runs like a champ.
My 3 other watches, no problems.

I have a Tag Heuer Heritage Chrono that is at least 6 years old. It was built with the eta 7750 movement, TH now uses their own in-house. Runs perfectly, but the dealer suggested I send it in for free service right before the warranty expired. (2 years) I never did

Wasn’t it less before?

We have used it twice, once for some finishing issues (dial finished poorly, material under crystal) and also for a movement issue on a 31mm datejust (made a whirring/vibration feeling when the watch was moved) they did a full service to the movement to correct that one

A good friend of mine just told me that his less than one year old, pristine carefully worn white ceramic Daytona, has been losing a lot of time and stopped working.
Had to send to Rolex center for repair.

Well that would not be covered for warranty work.

Never used warranty once in over 3 decades. But then again I don’t use macro lenses nor time graphers nor time.gov 24/7
