I’m definitely in a better place while avoiding all the craziness…

Clear favorite (for me) is the Explorer 36, but wow, there's something about those vintage 34mm Tudors... |

Yes.
This is my journey's end (possibly) for Rolex collecting. I love them all but this is the joint special one which ties for first place. Having got if from my AD in the current ridiculously hyped marketplace I feel like it's a real achievement, but whether that's a false impression or not, it was the one of the pair I wanted the most. |

5 years I’ve been hunting a 216570 polar. Now the 226570. I think that the next year will be the lucky one. I did get to try one on yesterday and it confirmed it’s awesome!!!!

5513
I'm pleased with my 5513, and if it wasn't way out of my reach I'd have a 5517.

It reaches from one side to the other...how much bigger than that
does a bridge need to be. The watch is a perfect size. It's today's temporary giant watch fad that's off. What really baffles me is people turn around and insist the 39mm Explorer was 3mm too big?? Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk |

Look, there is a proportion between the size of a watch and the lump of flesh that is one’s back of the hand that I personally find attractive, and then there’s comically huge watches to one side and to the other, there’s watches that make that lump of flesh look unflatteringly big by virtue of being of smaller diameter. Neither of these two alternatives is particularly appealing to my sense of aesthetics.
I am a rather tall guy at 1.90m in height, and I have a solid stature, with wrists and hands to match. So on my wrist, I feel the Daytona with its dainty 38.5mm size, that’s visually reduced even further by its broad bezel and busy dial, looks out of proportion. Instead of making me look sharp, as a fine timepiece should, it emphasizes the blunt mass of my limbs. It’s like squeezing into a 48 sized jacket when you should wear a 52. All it’ll do is make you look fat, desperate and clearly unfamiliar with any proper tailor. In my view, a watch should underscore the subtle and refined image I feel would match my personality, not make me look like a blunt big bloke so eager to show the world his status symbol that he’ll wear it whether or not it fits him. So I have steered clear from the Daytona, even when it was offered to me at retail, in favor of larger watches more in tune with my stature. But of course, everyone is free to do as they please and my view on this has no ambition of being authoritative in any way. Indeed the image I commented on is evidence enough that other folks see no impediment whatsoever in the proportion of a watch to the size of their wrist.

I keep looking so I’ll say I haven’t. But I regret nothing I have and would buy them all again. I think a DD or a PM Sky Dweller would do it for me, which I could easily get by trading in my current pieces, but not considering that an option at all. Also like the AP ROO in RG, but that’s a financial commitment even I haven’t been able to justify. Yet.

I am lucky to have found an AD that does not like to push people on unwanted products. Was actually chatting with my SA yesterday about something. I asked him whether PM pieces are easier to get vs SS. He thought I asked if buying other watches that I don’t want would get me something I do want faster and he said “we don’t push people to buy things they don’t want.” That alone is one of the biggest reasons why I enjoy doing business with them.
Edit: was able to get what I really wanted for dad. Now I’m hooked on Rolex and looking to round out the collection with a Daytona and the Batman. |

Well, technically, sort of the same for me: I'm waiting for pretty much that exact watch, but a regular gloss blue dial with the words "Air King" across the dial.

I really like the moonphase sub, although I would want it created in a 5 digit case. Maybe someday.

Yes. A watch I waited over a decade to be able to own. It has far surpassed any expectations I had.

Yes, I do. But then again from 1985 to 2016, the same could be said (and was said) about my Datejust. I don't think I have that common TRF gene that makes people say, "Just picked [xxxxx] up today. What should I try to get tomorrow?"

Now I have all the watches I really want and love. Ask me again in 3 months and I might want an Aqua Terra, which I don't own at the moment.

See my avatar. It came down to the Explorer or a BLNR. I had the chance to get a BLNR at retail….twice! But passed for the Explorer. Did I make the right decision? From an investment perspective, no. But for me personally, absolutely. The Explorer fits my day to day life and fashion aesthetic. And it was purchased as a gift so no matter the watch I’m never selling it anyway.
So yes, I have what I want. Now could I maybe add some gold in the future??? Time will tell…. |
