I think I have too many but I still love to buy more. I think as long as it doesn't hurt your financial, it's OK to enjoy your hobby.
I am good at buying but not good at selling, so far haven't sell anything yet.

Interesting comments. i agree - it depends on the person. For me, certain colours go with white gold, RG and YG. Dinner out - dressier watch! Day at the beach -or out on the water sub! Foreign country - FPJ OctaS. Work - all day at a desk - SS model to avoid scratching.
Walking the dog - Garmin. Still room for more watches that fulfil a role...... |

I would sell the DJ and the East German watch and get a nice IWC or Speedy and call it a day. |

Too many watches?
I could have bought a DJ41 and I really wouldn’t have a rational, logical reason for buying another watch. Sub, Speedy, and DJ would have been the perfect trio.
Instead, I bought another diver (Seamaster, which I’m in love with), so now I still definitely need to get a DJ anyway. That’s how watch collections go from 2 pieces to 4 pieces in less than a year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks for all the great discussion... I only have a few more on my list - - PP 5205G blue dial, WG Daytona steel dial on Oysterflex and maybe a full RG root beer

I’ve got 8 but my top 4 are 2 Rolex, Omega, and Tudor. Then, MSRP-wise, a Squale GMT and a Hamilton Khaki Field. The other 2 are Seiko based micros that I just really liked the look of but basically never wear :/
My partner bought me a 6 watch box and she said I needed to fill it while also having one in the winder and one on the wrist lol. She did say that the box should be filled with pieces I’m “proud of” therefor those micros may get replaced one day lol. I have license to SHOP! 🤣 I’d love to add an 11 series Bluesy as a nod to my University of Michigan degree. And I’d really like an Explorer 1 OR current Air King. Not in the cards currently tho… |

Too many watches?
My switches depend on mood, activity and clothes. Sometimes I wear the same one all week, a couple of days of just one - really just depends. I’m up to about 15, but about half are frugals. Still feels like too much sometimes, however I have two on order still - a PM Rolex and an Omega. I’ll probably cull the herd of some frugals and mid-range watches when those come in.

If you aren't getting enough wrist time for each watch, then its too many.
But the bigger thing is that you mentioned buying 8 of 9 in the last year. From one to 9 in less than a year is definitely too much. To me, watches are a lifetime purchase. Take it easy, buy only if you really like. |

Ditch the Panerai.
I change watches when the notion strikes me.

'Too much' depends on the person, IMO.
I am pretty happy wearing the same Sub every day, but also being able to enjoy looking at the pictures that Members on this fine forum have shared of new additions. There are a few I would not mind having in the future, probably as special occasion pieces, but I like wearing predominantly the same watch every day and I like the idea of wearing the same watch over multiple decades. So 9 watches would be a bit much for me, both logistically and financially. |

8 is not many, you need at least 12 1 for each month of the year!

I think 3 to 4 is a sweet spot for a luxury collection. I have a Sub, Speedy, BB58, and Vintage OP.
However I have others and that may go up or down at anytime. I think trading, buying, selling, whatever… is more fun in the $500-$1k range. Then we don’t have to feel too bad about wrist time on those :) |

Less is more to me. I’m a 3-4 watch kind of guy … any more than that and I’m just not wearing them enough to justify them.

If I had your exact collection and only wanted to get rid of just one, it would probably be the Omega.

The solution is to simply stop taking stock and not keep track of what you have. It's more fun in a chaotic sort of way. Recently sent a PO OREO in for warranty service and when I got the call to go pick it up after repair I had almost forgot I even owned it. It was like going to get a free watch in a sense!
